Abstract:

A solvent-extraction spectrophotometric technique is proposed as a new method for determination of trace quantities of vanadium. Sodium salt of 2-mercapto-pyridine-N-oxide (thione) forms a complex with vanadium instantaneously. The purple 1:2 complex is formed of pH 2.3, easily extracted in chloroform and shows strong absorbance at 500 nm. The extracted complex is found to obey Beer's law in the concentration range of 0.3-18 mgmL-1 vanadium. The molar absorptivity of vanadium thione complex is 2.63´103 L.mol-1.cm-1 with a detection limit of 0.1 mgmL-1. The proposed method offers the advantage of sensitivity and relative freedom from interferences compared to the existing methods. This method is applied in the determination of vanadium in rutile.

A spectrophotometric study of osmium (VIII) complex of 1-hydroxy 2- pyridine thione (HPT) is presented. A red-violet complex, 0 s (HPT) is formed in a highly acidic solution, and shows maximum absorbance at 500 nm with molar absorptivity of 5.12 x 101. mol . cm . Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 3-60 ppm. Sandel's sensitivity of the method is 0.37 ?g.cm per0.001 ab sorbance unit. V (V)...

Solvent extraction, spectrophotometric determination of copper (II) from environmental samples using o-methylphenyl thiourea as a novel reagent

A simple and rapid method has been developed for solvent extraction and spectrophotometric determination of copper (II) using o-methylphenyl thiourea (OMPT) as a sensitive reagent. The basis of proposed method is formation of copper (II)-OMPT complex. Copper (II) was extracted with 0.020 mol L-1 OMPT in chloroform from aqueous solution in 0.075 mol L-1 potassium iodate. The absorbance of comple...

SOLVENT EXTRACTION AND SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF Mo(VI) BY USING ACETOPHENONE 2’,4’-DIHYDROXY SEMICARBAZONE AS AN ANALYTICAL REAGENT

Acetophenone 2’,4’-dihydroxy semicarbazone (A24DHS) as a photometric reagent for the extractive spectrophotometric determination of Molybdenum (VI) is presented in this paper. The reagent A24DHS gave instantaneous and stable yellow colour with Molybdenum (VI) in the pH range 1.6 to 2.4. The system obeys Beer’s law in the concentration range of 1.0 μg/mL to 8.0 μg/mL at 370 nm. The Limit of Dete...

EXTRACTIVE SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF VANADIUM WITH ANTHRANILIC ACID IN PRESENCE OF PYRIDINE

Vanadium (III) gives a greenish- yellow complex with anthranilic acid in presence of pyridine. The complex is extractable with chloroform and is used for photometric determination of vanadium by measuring the absorbance at 390 nm against a reagent blank. Beer's Law holds good in the range of 1-20 pg V/ml. Moderate amounts of Pb (II) , Ca (II) , Sr (II) , Ba (II) , Cd (II) , Mg (II) , Mn (II...

Spectrophotometric Determination of Mefenamic Acid in Biological Samples Using Magnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles as a Sorbent for Solid Phase Extraction

This work investigates the potential of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles as an adsorbent for separation and preconcentration of trace amounts of mefenamic acid in aquatic and biological samples, prior to spectrophotometric determination. The magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONs) were synthesized by mixing of ferrous and ferric chlorides. The possible parameters affecting the enrichment were opt...

Spectrophotometric Determination of Drugs Using Iodine As Analytical Reagent

Six drugs viz., Astemizole, Cisapride, Domperidone, Pantoprazole, Rabeprazole and Trazadone were tested for the formation of charge transfer complexes with Iodine. Each of these drugs turned the violet coloured i.e iodine , in CH2Cl2, to brown and exhibited a new band at 366nm in addition to the original band of iodine at 510nm due to anion of the reagent whose intensity increased with increase...
