A Research on Association between SCD1 and OLR1 Genes and Milk Production Traits in Iranian Holstein Dairy Cattle
author
Abstract:
The present study was carried out to investigate the association of C/T single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)in exon 5 of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) gene and A/C SNP in the 3' untranslated region of oxidized low density lipoprotein receptor 1 (OLR1)gene with milk production traits in Iranian Holstein dairy Cattle. The blood samples of 153 (for OLR1) and 308 (for SCD1) dairy cattle from three different farms were used for genotyping. A 146 bp fragment of 3'UTR of OLR1 gene and a 400 bp fragment of exon 5 of SCD1 gene were amplified by standard PCR. Single nucleotide polymorphism of OLR1 and SCD1 gene was determined by polymerase chain reaction single-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique. The association between genotypes of OLR1 and SCD1 genes with milk production traits was studied by general linear models (GLM) procedure of SAS package and Duncan test was used for comparing means of traits. The frequency of AA, AV and VV genotype of SCD1 gene were 0.60, 0.32 and 0.08 respectively. The frequency of alleles A and V were 0.76 and 0.24. The genotype frequencies of AA, AC and CC in OLR1 gene were 0.22, 0.50 and 0.28 respectively. The frequency of allele A and C was 0.47 and 0.53. Thus, this population was in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for OLR1 but not for SCD1. The means of fat percentage for SCD1 genotypes were 3.43% and 3.33 for VV and AA respectively (P

Association between DGAT1 Genotype and Breeding Value of Milk Production Traits in Iranian Holstein Bulls
The aim of this study was to test the genotypes effect of DGAT1 gene on breeding value in Iranian Holstein milk production traits. For this purpose, 103 semen samples of registered bulls were collected and then genotyped for partial region of DGAT1 gene. The studied traits were milk yield (MY), fat yield (FY), protein yield (PY), fat percentage (FP) and protein percentage (PP). First lactation ...
full textQuantitative Trait Loci Affecting Milk Production Traits on BTA 14 in Iranian Holstein Dairy Cattle: A Confirmation
The aim of this study was to refine the position of previously detected quantitative trait loci (QTL) on bovine chromosome 14 affecting milk production traits, using both linkage analysis (LA) and combined disequilibrium and linkage analysis (LDLA) methods, in Iranian Holstein dairy cattle. Analysis data was LRT (likelihood ratio test) and computed using the DMU (estimate the (co)variance compo...
full textSingle nucleotide polymorphism of the lactoferrin gene and its association with milk production and reproduction traits in Iranian Holstein cattle
Bovine lactoferrin (LTF) is a member of the transferrin family of iron-binding proteins. This protein is present in a wide variety of biological fluids and shows important physiological functions in body. In this study, 404 blood samples were collected from Holstein dairy farms in Iran. A 301 bp fragment of intron 6 in bovine LTF gene was amplified and the animals were genotyped using polymeras...
full textEstimation of Economic Values for Fertility, Stillbirth and Milk Production Traits in Iranian Holstein Dairy Cows
The objective of present study was to derive the economic values for number of inseminations to conception, calving interval, milk yield and stillbirth, using economic data of 10 Iranian Holstein herds. The economic values were derived by using the profit function methods and differentiating a profit equation with respect to the traits of interest. The cow fertility costs herd amortization or r...
full textAssociation between polymorphism in STAT5A gene and milk production traits in Chinese Holstein cattle*
STAT5 is a key intracellular mediator of prolactin signaling and can activate transcription of milk proteins in response to prolactin. STAT5 genes are suggested to be candidate markers for milk protein yield and composition in dairy cattle. PCR-SSCP was applied to analyze the polymorphisms of two loci in STAT5A gene in 279 Chinese Holstein cattle. Genotype frequencies, allele frequencies and co...
full textGenetic Study of Dairy Cattle and Buffalo Bulls Based on Growth, Milk Production and Reproductive Traits
The present investigation aimed to conduct a genetic study of dairy cattle and buffalo bulls based on economic traits and their phenotypic correlation. The means of various economic traits in both the species are presented. Cattle bulls reported a better libido score, Flehmen response, requirement of mounting stimulus and semen volume, conception rate and expected predicted difference for milk ...
