abstract

conclusions our study emphasized the increasing role of esbl genes, especially blactx-m15 in epec isolates. results of 42 epec, eight isolates carried the blactx-m1. none of the isolates carried blactx-m2 and blactx-m9. the blactx-m15 variant was identified in all of blactx-m1-positive isolates. furthermore, blashv and blatem genes were detected in 40.5% (n = 17) and 19% (n = 8) of all epec isolates, respectively. no significant association was observed between the existence of bfp gene and presence of those β-lactamase genes (p > 0.05). mlva analysis revealed high genetic diversity among blactx-m15-positive isolates. objectives the main objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of blactx-m, blashv and blatem β-lactamase genes among enteropathogenic e. coli (epec) isolates in tehran, iran. materials and methods stool specimens were collected from children with diarrhea during a 17-month period from 2011 to 2013. routine biochemical tests were performed for identification of e. coli isolates. the isolates were further examined by pcr for the presence of eae, stx1, stx2 and bfp genes. epec isolates have been screened for different β-lactamase genes. genotyping epec isolates harboring blactx-m15 gene was performed through multi-locus vntr analysis (mlva). background antibiotic resistance is widespread among diarrheagenic escherichia coli in developing countries, where the overuse of antibiotics is common. information regarding β-lactamases, especially extended-spectrum β-lactamases (esbls) in diarrheagenic pathogens should be considered in clinical management when an optimal treatment is needed.

Occurrence of SHV, TEM and CTX-M β-Lactamase Genes Among Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli Strains Isolated From Children With Diarrhea

OBJECTIVES The main objective of this study was ...

Prevalence of SHV/CTX-M/TEM (ESBL) Beta-lactamase Resistance Genes in Escherichia Coli Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections in Tehran, Iran

Abstract Background and objectives: Beta-lactamase enzymes are the most causes of resistance to antibiotics among gram-negative bacteria. Nowadays, Infections due to ESBLs are being increased throughout the world and is considered as a new burden to the health systems. This study aimed at determining the sensitivity pattern of E.coli isolates to beta-lactam antibiotics, and investigating the pr...

Detection of TEM, SHV and CTX-M Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Escherichia coli Isolates from Infected Wounds

ABSTRACT        Background and Objective: Escherichia coli is one of the most common causes of hospital-acquired infections. Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli strains are resistant to third-generation cephalosporins. The three main genes involved in ESBL production are TEM, SHV and CTX-M. Detection of ESBL-producing E. coli is of importan...

Determination of Antibiotic Resistance Pattern and frequency of CTX-M, TEM, and SHV Β-Lactamase Encoding Genes among Shigella Isolates from Inpatients in Tehran, Iran

ABSTRACT              Background and Objectives: The emergence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Shigella spp. is becoming a health concern worldwide. This study aimed to investigate antibiotic resistance pattern and frequency of blaCTX-M, blaSHV, and blaTEM genes among Shigella isolates from patients in hospitals of Tehran, Iran.              Methods: In this cross-sectional ...

frequency of bla tem, bla shv, bla ctx-m, and qnra among escherichia coli isolated from urinary tract infection

conclusions considering the high prevalence of esbl genes (bla ctx-m, 87%; and bla tem, 82%), fluoroquinolones may be used as an alternative drug in treatment, although resistance to this family is increasing as well. as a result, this increasing trend should be prevented using appropriate guidelines for prescription. background escherichia coli is the most important as well as the most common ...

INVESTIGATION OF SHV, TEM, CTX-M GENES FREQUENCY IN ESCHERICHIA COLI AND KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE ISOLATES IN CHILDREN WITH UTI IN RASHT CITY

Abstract Introduction and objective: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) is one of common infections in children which rapidly acquiring more resistance to antimicrobial drugs in the worldwide.  The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of SHV, TEM and CTX-M genes in Escherichia Coli and Klebsiella Pneumoniae strains isolated from UTI in children in 17 Shahrivar hospital from Rasht city....
