چکیده
patients and methods this study was a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial. a hundred boys with pmne and ihc were randomly assigned into two groups of experimental (treated with hct 1 mg/kg/day) and control and all patients were followed for 4 months for the number of wet-night episodes. results the mean numbers of wet-night episodes in the first (intervention: 8.34 ± 8.54, control: 9.1 ± 9.3, p = 0.3), second (7.1 ± 7.3, 7.9 ± 8.1, p = 0.4), third (7.8 ± 8, 7.9 ± 8.1, p = 0.1) and fourth (4.9 ± 5.1, 5.9 ± 6, p = 0.3) months were not significantly different between the two groups. however, the decrease in the average wet-night episodes during the 4 months of treatment in the intervention group (p = 0.019) unlike the control group. not more significant compared to control group (p = 0.191). all patients who were treated by hct became normocalciuric. however, in 21 patients the dose was increased to 2 mg/kg/day. conclusions single daily dose of hct is a safe and effective therapeutic option in the treatment of pmne in children with ihc. objectives the aim of this study was to assess the therapeutic efficacy of hct in boys with primary monosymptomatic ne (pmne). background idiopathic hypercalciuria (ihc) can be one of the causes of nocturnal enuresis (ne) and hydrochlorothiazide (hct) ameliorates hypercalciuria.

Therapeutic Efficacy of Hydrochlorothiazide in Primary Monosymptomatic Nocturnal Enuresis in Boys With Idiopathic Hypercalciuria
BACKGROUND Idiopathic hypercalciuria (IHC) can be one of the causes of nocturnal enuresis (NE) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) ameliorates hypercalciuria. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess the therapeutic efficacy of HCT in boys with primary monosymptomatic NE (PMNE). PATIENTS AND METHODS This study was a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial. A hundred boys w...
متن کامل[Monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis]
OBJECTIVES: Monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) plays a very important role in the practice of pediatrics due to its high prevalence, its psychosocial impact, and its controversial etiology and treatment. Our objective was to show that MNE can be a well-defined clinical entity (monosymptomatic), but it can also be a symptom of urinary disorder, thus requiring a completely different therape...
متن کاملEfficacy of an Enuresis Alarm, Desmopressin, and Combination Therapy in the Treatment of Saudi Children With Primary Monosymptomatic Nocturnal Enuresis
PURPOSE We evaluated and compared the effectiveness of an enuresis alarm, desmopressin medication, and their combination in the treatment of Saudi children with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 136 children with PMNE were randomly assigned to receive an enuresis alarm alone (EA group, n=45), desmopressin alone (D group, n=46), or a combinatio...
متن کاملNocturnal polyuria in monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis refractory to desmopressin treatment.
The transition from day to night is associated with a pronounced decline in diuresis with reductions in the amount of excreted water, electrolytes, and other end products of our metabolism. Failure to do so leads to a large urine output at night, a condition known as nocturnal polyuria, encountered in a large proportion of children with nocturnal enuresis. The aim of this study was to clarify t...
متن کاملMelatonin treatment in children with therapy-resistant monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of exogenous melatonin on the frequency of wet nights, on the sleep-wake cycle, and on the melatonin profile in children with therapy-resistant MNE. PATIENTS AND METHODS 24 patients were included. Patients had to maintain a diary including time of sleep and arousal, and whether they had a dry or a wet bed in the morning. We measured baseline melatonin profile...
متن کاملSleep apnea in children with refractory monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis
BACKGROUND Children with nocturnal enuresis (NE) are believed to have deep sleep with high arousal threshold. Studies suggest that obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and NE are common problems during childhood. We sought to assess the prevalence of OSAHS in children with refractory NE and whether its severity is associated with the frequency of bedwetting. METHODS The study gro...
