salmonella is a gram-negative, non-spore forming facultative anaerobic, motile bacilli. in developing countries, non-typhoidal salmonella (nts) accounts for the steadily increase in the proportion of human infections in recent decades. the clinical presentations of non-typhoidal salmonella infection are protean, including gastroenteritis (the most common one), bacteremia, septic arthritis, oste...

background: to determine the prevalence of typhoidal and non-typhoidal salmonella species in hamadan city, west of iarn and detection of antibiotic susceptibility patterns of isolates. methods: in a cross-sectional descriptive study, 296 salmonella species including 192 strains of typhoidal salmonella and 104 strains of non- typhoidal salmonella were examined for serotyping and determining of a...

Non-typhoidal Salmonella species are important foodborne pathogens that can cause gastroenteritis, bacteremia, and subsequent focal infections. Non-typhoidal salmonellosis is problematic, particularly in immunocompromised hosts. Any anatomical site can be affected by this pathogen via hematogenous seeding and may develop local infections. However, cervical lymphadenitis caused by non-typhoidal ...

Human infections with Salmonella enterica results in two major groups of diseases: gastroenteritis and typhoid fever. Clinical observations suggest that gastroenteritis, caused by non-typhoidal Salmonella serovars, is characterized by a massive neutrophil influx, which keeps the infection localized to the intestinal mucosa. In contrast, the absence of neutrophilic intestinal infiltrates in the ...

Typhoidal and para-typhoidal Salmonella are major causes of bacteraemia in resource-limited countries. Diagnostic alternatives to laborious resource-demanding serotyping essential. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIRS) is a rapidly developing simple bacterial typing technology. In this study, we assessed the discriminatory power FTIRS-based IR Biotyper (Bruker Daltonik GmbH, Bremen, G...

We herein report a case study of an HIV-1-infected 64-year-old Japanese man who presented, with an abdominal aortic aneurysm due to non-typhoidal Salmonella. He was admitted with a 7-day history of intermittent left back pain. A culture of a blood specimen yielded gram-negative bacilli, which were identified as non-typhoidal Salmonella. Computed tomography showed an abdominal aortic aneurysm du...

Introduction: Typhoidal Salmonella causes an invasive infection resulting in 200 000 deaths among 20 million patients annually. Typhoid remains a public health problem in Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Africa, and South America. Traveler’s diarrhea caused by Salmonella is common in Asia. Outbreaks of typhoidal Salmonella resistant to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and t...

Contaminated pork is an important source of Salmonella infections in humans. The increasing multiple antimicrobial resistance associated with pork-related serotypes such as Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Derby may become a serious human health hazard in the near future. Governments try to anticipate the issue of non-typhoidal Salmonella infections in pork by starting monitoring programme...

Splenic abscess is a very rare complication of non-typhoidal Salmonella infections. We report a case of splenic abscess caused by Salmonella enteritidis. The patient is a 63-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus and underwent splenectomy. This case suggests that the patients with comorbities are at increased risk for invasive infections in non-typhoidal Salmonella infections.
