Tuberculum sellae meningiomas are usually removed using various transcranial approaches. The extended transsphenoidal approach also indicates for some lesions around the sella turcica. The author primarily approaches supradiaphragmatic tumors through the tuberculum sellae using the extended transsphenoidal approach, termed the “transsphenoidal-transtuberculum sellae approach” even for the tuber...
We report a case of tuberculum sellae meningioma with optic tract edema. Contrary to a prior report on this topic, edema along the optic tract is not only seen in craniopharyngiomas but may be seen (although rarely) in other common parasellar tumors, as in our case of a tuberculum sellae meningioma. The pathogenesis of this edema in meningioma is controversial.
The recognition of anterior or posterior displacement of the fourth ventricle on axial computed tomography (CT) has proven to be difficult because the apparent position of this structure is variable and dependent on scanning angle. In most cases direct visualization of a lesion and its relationship to normal anatomic structures allows for the correct assessment. However, in some instances it wo...
AIM To evaluate the endocrinological and ophthalmological results of the tuberculum sellae meningioma surgery. MATRRIAL and METHODS: A total of 18 patients diagnosed with tuberculum sellae meningioma received surgical treatment at Neurosurgery Clinic at Military Medical Institute in Warsaw from January 2010 to July 2012. background and importance: symptomatic vasospasm is a well-known pathology associated with ruptured aneurysms. nevertheless, this condition is rarely found as a result of skull base tumor removal. case presentation: we reported a new case of 40-year-old woman previously treated for a tuberculum and diaphragma sellae meningioma showing symptomatic vasospasm after twelve post-operative days witho...
AIM Fibrous dysplasia is a benign disease in which medullary bone is replaced by fibro-osseous tissue, and causes distortion and overgrowth of the involved bone and represents about 3% of all bone tumors. There is variability in the manifestation of Fibrous Dysplasia lesions with imaging techniques due to their proportional variations of fibrous to osseous tissue. Radiological d...
This article describes the results of a study of the distance from the optic chiasm to the tuberculum sellae as seen on sagittal MR images. Measurements revealed an average chiasm-tuberculum distance of 3.8 mm (2.6 mm for females, 4.3 mm for males) and a sizable group in whom the distance was effectively zero. These results show a fairly close correlation with previous anatomic studies. The clo...
Preservation of the optic nerves is an important issue in the resection of tuberculum sellae meningiomas. We report the case of a patient whose optic nerve was penetrated by a tuberculum sellae meningioma. During surgery, a bulging tumor was found to penetrate the right optic nerve. The tumor was gross totally removed, including tumors bulging through the optic nerve. Two trunks of the split op...
