While successful aging is often defined as the absence of disease and disability or as life satisfaction, self-transcendence may also play an important role. The objective of this research was to test a nursing theory of successful aging proposing that transcendence and adaptation predict successful aging. In this cross-sectional exploratory study, a convenience sample of older adults (N = 152)...

B7t nC + Bv(n) where v(n) is one of the integers 1, 2, • • • , m (Theorem 8.1; Theorem 10.1; Theorem 11.4). Thus, under the assumption that dim I hD I > 0 for some h, B„ is bounded (from above) if and only if D is arithmetically effective.' (7) If the quadratic form (pi, is of type (0, t), the function v(n) which occurs in (6) is periodic (Theorem 11.4). (8) The ring KID] (introduced in § 2) is...

We prove a Hom-form of the pro-p birational anabelian conjecture for function fields over sub-p-adic fields. Our starting point is the corresponding Theorem of Mochizuki in the case of transcendence degree 1.

We show that the pythagoras number of a real function field is strictly larger than its transcendence degree. In the purely transcendental case, this is a well known consequence of the Cassels-Pfister Theorem.

Let k be an algebraically closed field, let K/k be a finitely generated field extension of transcendence degree 2 with automorphism σ ∈ Autk(K), and let A ⊆ Q = K[t;σ] be an N-graded subalgebra with dimk An < ∞ for all n ≥ 0. Then if A is big enough in Q in an appropriate sense, we prove that GKA = 3, 4, 5, or ∞, with the exact value depending only on the geometric properties of σ. The proof us...

We address Bass’ question, on whether Kn(R) = Kn(R[t]) implies Kn(R) = Kn(R[t1, t2]). In a companion paper, we establish a positive answer to this question when R is of finite type over a field of infinite transcendence degree over the rationals. Here we provide an example of an isolated surface singularity over a number field for which the answer the Bass’ question is “no” when n = 0.

Measures of self-transcendence, physical health and psychological well-being were included in a self-report Health and Lifestyle questionnaire administered to Australian twins aged over 50 between 1993 and 1995. Self-transcendence appears to be higher among older Australian women than men, and was significantly associated with religious affiliation, marital status (in women) and age (in men). N...

We construct a computable, computably categorical field of infinite transcendence degree over Q, using the Fermat polynomials and assorted results from algebraic geometry. We also show that this field has an intrinsically computable (infinite) transcendence basis.
