This study was initiated owing to concern that removal of the invasive ground cover, Tradescantia fluminensis, might adversely effect the rare, giant predatory land snail, Powelliphanta traversi. Of 18 sites surveyed in the Horowhenua District, seven sites provide habitat for P. traversi and do not contain Tradescantia. Five colonies of P. traversi are affected by Tradescantia, these are: Waiop...
Tradescantia fluminensis, commonly referred to as ‘tradescantia’, is an invasive weed of canopydepleted forest remnants. Previous research suggests that a reduction of tradescantia biomass to ~80 gm-2 (~40% cover) is compatible with native forest regeneration. I assessed herbicide application, hand weeding and artificial shading as methods for the control of tradescantia in two lowland podocarp...
Throughout the years, three infrageneric classifications were proposed for Tradescantia along with several informal groups and species complexes. The current infrageneric classification accepts 12 sections - with T. sect. Tradescantia being further divided into four series - and assimilates many concepts adopted by previous authors. Recent molecular-based phylogenetic studies indicate that the ...
the aim of this study was the evaluation of acute genotoxic effect of effluent water of thermo-power plant by means of tradescantia root tips micronucleus test (mn), mitotic index and cell aberrations. tradescantia , was experimentally treated (for 24 h), with effluent water of thermo-power plant in different dilution ratios (negative control – distilled water; primary untreated effluent wate...
OBJECTIVE To assess the genotoxic activity of N-nitroso diethylamine (NDEA), maleic hydrazide (MH), and ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) using two systems: the comet assay on nuclei from Tradescantia, and the pink mutation test on Tradescantia staminal hairs (clone 4430). MATERIAL AND METHODS Tradescantia cups was obtained from Laboratorio de Citogenética y Mutagénesis del Centro de Ciencias de ...
Stabilities of anthocyanins from Concord grapes, red cabbage, tradescantia and ajuga were studied. RP-HPLC analysis was used to characterize individual anthocyanins and spectrophotometric analysis for all pigments. Anthocyanins from tradescantia were much more stable than the other extracts. Such increased stability was attributed to its intrinsic nature.
This study was initiated owing to concern that removal of the invasive ground cover weed Tradescantia fluminensis may adversely effect the rare giant predatory land snail Powelliphanta traversi. From field trials using hand removal and herbicide spraying, it was considered that graduated control of Tradescantia with concomitant replacement of native ground cover could be of benefit to P. traver...
COMPARISON of microsporogenesis and microspore development A in a triploid Tradescantia has shown significant deviations from the normal diploid behavior. Occasional dicentric chromatids a t meiosis are found in diploid Tradescantias, but inversion crossovers in the triploid are much more frequent. An analysis of microspore development in a triploid Tradescantia shows that chromosome number has...
A study has been made of the means by which light influences the gravitropic set-point angle (GSA) of the nodes of Tradescantia and the hypocotyls of the lazy-2 mutant of tomato. In light-grown Tradescantia there is a light-regulated developmental change in the GSA with the magnitude of this change being dependent on the photon flux density of white light. The photosynthetic inhibitor DCMU abol...
Here, we present evidence that the alleged correction of the typification of Tradescantia crassula recently proposed by Pellegrini, Forzza and Sakuragui is erroneous. Furthermore, we clarify misconceptions concerning the epitype of T. crassula, the specimen B-100521014, which was collected by Friedrich Sello in southern Brazil, and is not original material for T. crassula.
