abstract background: fractures of the tibia are important for their commonness and controversy in their management. both conservative and surgical techniques have been introduced in an effort to speed time to :::::union::::: while minimizing the occurrence of complications. standard treatment for low-energy tibial shaft fractures includes closed reduction and cast immobilization. the purpose ...
background: several systemic factors and hormones are thought to regulate the fracture healing process. vitamin d has emerged as a compound or hormone that actively participates in the regulation of calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism. objectives: the aim of this study is to determine the serum changes in the level of vitamin d during the acute healing period of tibial and femoral shaft fra...
We report the results of a three-year study of bifocal fractures of the tibia and fibula, excluding segmental shaft fractures. In our whole series, these formed 4.7% of all tibial diaphyseal fractures. We describe three groups: bifocal fractures of both the proximal and the distal joint surfaces, fractures of the shaft and tibial plateau, and fractures of the shaft and ankle. These groups of fr...
BACKGROUND Footballers constitute a unique group of patients with tibial shaft fractures. They tend to have excellent general health and well developed musculature in the leg, and their fractures are generally closed injuries caused by low velocity trauma. However, little has been reported on the outcome after tibial shaft fractures in this group. OBJECTIVE To identify patterns of injury, res...
Background: To compare the union times of the uncomplicated tibial shaft fractures, which were distally locked by twocoronal and one sagittal screws and by only two coronal screws. Methods: 45 patients with tibial shaft treated with intramedullary nailing included in this study. 23 of 45 fractureswere treated with uniplanar two distal interlocking (Group 1) and 22 fractures were treated with bip...
The authors investigated the prevalence and the difference in the severity of systemic complications following intramedullary nailing of bilateral tibial and femoral shaft fractures. A retrospective chart analysis of 12 consecutive patients with bilateral tibial shaft fractures (TF) and 14 patients with bilateral femoral shaft fractures (FF) was performed. The incidences of bilateral tibial fra...
BACKGROUND A concomitant tibial shaft and posterior malleolar fracture is a type of regular compound fracture. The associated posterior malleolar fractures are mostly occult fractures, which often do not show a fracture line on ordinary films, and thus lead to a high rate of misdiagnosis. The aim of the present study was to investigate factors helpful for the pre-operative detection of concomit...
Patients and Methods: From April 2009 to January 2014, we treated 91 patients with high-energy fractures of the tibial shaft at Orthopedic Department of AlRamadi Teaching Hospital. Twenty patients were suitable for our study that had closed segmental fractures of tibial shaft (42-C2 / AO classification), treated by minimal, internal and external, fixations with follow up range from 6 months to ...
We performed a prospective randomised trial on matched groups of patients with displaced tibial shaft fractures to compare conservative treatment with closed intramedullary nailing. The results showed conclusively that intramedullary nailing gave more rapid union with less malunion and shortening. Nailed patients had less time off work with a more predictable and rapid return to full function. ...
