demineralized bone matrix has been successfully commercialized as an alternative bone graft material that not only can function as filler but also as an osteoinductive graft. numerous studies have confirmed its beneficial use in clinical practice. heterotopic ossification after internal fixation combined with the use of demineralized bone matrix has not been widely reported. in this paper we de...

Introduction: The combination of tibia plateau and shaft fractures, previously reported as type of “bifocal” tibia fracture, is a rare injury.1 The majority of tibia plateau fractures and bifocal tibia fractures occur after high-energy trauma.1,2 The treatment of these injuries varies depending on type, mechanism of injury, and patient characteristics. Case Presentation: We report the case of o...

We report a case of an apparent avulsion fracture of the posteromedial margin of the medial plateau of the tibia. This was associated with a tear of the medial meniscus and rupture ofthe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This triad has been previously reported, and the plateau fracture was related to the insertion of the semimembranosus tendon. The detailed investigation of our case and some ex...

Tibial plateau fractures are common yet complex injuries, and include a wide variety of fracture patterns. They are also potentially associated with significant soft tissue injury. Thus, the surgeon preparing to operate on one of these fractures must choose from a variety of surgical approaches that have been described. The choice of approach is dictated principally by the fracture pattern, wit...

Fractures of the proximal tibia comprise a huge spectrum of injuries with different fracture configurations. The combination of tibia plateau fracture with diaphyseal extension is a rare injury with sparse literature being available on treatment of the same. Various treatment modalities can be adopted with the aim of achieving a well-aligned, congruous, stable joint, which allows early motion a...

Knee trauma and effusion are common Emergency Department presentations. This article outlines the clinician's sonographic approach to knee effusion detection and localisation. A case where lipohaemarthrosis was detected with ultrasound is demonstrated, and the characteristic appearance of this pathology discussed. The sonographic detection of the associated tibial fracture is also demonstrated.

Background. The combined occurrence of ACL rupture with a posterolateral tibial plateau fracture has not yet been reported. Two cases of such injuries have been treated in our department for the past three years. Findings. The two patients both suffered injuries from traffic accidents. The radiological examinations showed a ruptured ACL with fracture of the posterolateral tibial plateau. Recons...

Introduction Open femoral fractures are relatively uncommon occurrences, with few reports addressing their management. They are caused by high-energy mechanisms, and bone loss is a possible, but infrequent occurrence. We present a case in which two friends, 20- and 21-year-old males, were involved in a motorcycle collision. A large piece of bone was ejected from one patient's femur as a bony pr...

Fractures of the tibial plateau are relatively rare, representing around 1.2% of all fractures. The tibia, due to its subcutaneous location and poor muscle coverage, is exposed and suffers large numbers of traumas, not only fractures, but also crush injuries and severe bruising, among others, which at any given moment, could lead compartment syndrome in the patient. The case is reported of a 58...
