The association of pemphigus and thymoma is real, although rare. We report a 73-year-old woman presenting with cutaneous bullac and erosions superimposed on erythematous and urticarial plaques, and a positive Nikolsky sign. She. had a large mediastinal mass that proved to be a benign thymoma. Her skin biopsy and direct immunofluorescence test were suggestive of superficial pemphigus.
Thymoma is a term that should be restricted to neoplasms of thymic epithelial cells, irrespective of the presence or the number of lymphocytes. The usual location of thymoma is the antrosuperior mediastinum; however, this tumor can also occur in other mediastinal compartments, in the neck, within the thyroid gland, in the pericardial cavity, the pulmonary hilum, within the lung parenchyma, o...
Thymoma is the most common neoplasm of anterior mediastinum with incidence peaks during the fourth, fifth and sixth decades of life. Two-thirds of patients are asymptomatic and identified accidentally by chest x-rays . Of the total, 40-70 % of patients have one or more parathymic syndromes of which Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is the most common and reported in 10-50% . Gullain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) h...
Background: Thymoma is a rare malignant tumour in adults which originates from thymic epithelial cells. Micronodular thymoma with lymphoid stroma subtype that accounts for about 1% of all cases. Due to the extremely limited number reported cases, clinical guidelines and therapeutic regimens have not yet been established.

Thymic epithelial neoplasms are commonly aetiology of the anterior mediastinum masses in adults. It represents 20–30% of all mediastinal tumours in adults. Ectopic thymomas usually affect the neck, mediastinal compartments, lung, and pleura, arising from aberrant thymic tissue. For giant thymoma, there is still no consensus on the surgical approach. We herein report a patient with a giant thym...
For thymoma, multidisciplinary antitumor strategy is composed of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Meanwhile, ~20% to 25% of patients with thymoma have myasthenia gravis and plasmapheresis is recommended for thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis. We report a case that a 40-year-old woman with thymoma experiencing tumor relapse after surgery showed significant response to plasmapheresis.Thi...
Although the most common hematological disturbance in thymoma is pure red cell aplasia, pancytopenia is a very rare paraneoplastic syndrome in this disorder. We only found one case in literature reviews. We report a 36 year old female with an anterior mediastinal mass and severe pancytopenia. With a mediastinotomy incision, biopsy of the tumor was obtained. The report of the pathologist was t...
The present study aimed to investigate the expression and association of the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) -1637A/G in the promoter region of the T cell immunoglobulin domain and mucin domain protein-1 (Tim-1) gene in patients diagnosed with thymoma with or without myasthenia gravis (MG). The expression of Tim-1 was detected using the streptavidin peroxidase immunohistochemical staining ...
BACKGROUND The thymus or thymoma plays a role in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis (MG). Although previous studies have reported that the presence of MG in thymoma patients is an indicator of poor prognosis, recent reports have shown that the presence of MG no longer influences the prognosis or indicates a more favorable prognosis in thymoma patients. METHODS To clarify the difference in ...
