Citation: Morais P, Parra MP, Baptista V, Ribeiro L, Pousão-Ferreira P and Teodósio MA (2017) Response of Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata L., 1758) Larvae to Nursery Odor Cues as Described by a New Set of Behavioral Indexes. Front. Mar. Sci. 4:318. doi: 10.3389/fmars.2017.00318 Response of Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata L., 1758) Larvae to Nursery Odor Cues as Described by a New Set of Behav...
Growth, energy content, ingestion and respiration rates and energetic efficiencies were measured in the larvae of two marine fish (Solea senegalensis and Sparus aurata) whose eggs have a similar diameter (approximately 1mm) and energy content (approximately 1J), but whose larvae reach a quite different mass after the first month of life. Experiments were carried out in populations reared under ...
The effect of acute handling stress on haematological profile, blood glucose and lactate (secondary stress markers) in cultured sea bream Sparus aurata was evaluated. Sixty six Sparus aurata were used and equally divided into two groups (A and B). Group A was not subjected to stress, Group B was subjected to acute handling stress. From each fish, biometric data and blood samples were collected ...
Given the pivotal role of Platelet-Activating-Factor (PAF) in atherosclerosis and the cardio-protective role of PAF-inhibitors derived from olive pomace, the inclusion of olive pomace in fish feed has been studied for gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). The aim of the current research was to elucidate the anti-atherogenic properties of specific HPLC lipid fractions obtained from olive pomace, o...
Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is a sensitive marker of dietary protein utilisation in fish. Three ALT isoforms (cALT1, cALT2 and mALT) encoded by two genes have been isolated from gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). Molecular characterization of ALT isozymes and gene promoters suggest involvement of cALT1 and mALT in postprandial use of dietary amino acids, while cALT2 seems associated to hepa...
Distribution and capture Th e gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata, is a subtropical Sparidae distributed from 62°N 15°N, 17°W 43°E. It occurs naturally in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (rare), and in the Eastern Atlantic, from the British Isles, Strait of Gibraltar to Cape Verde and around the Canary Islands (1). Gilthead sea bream are captured with traditional and sporting equipment, and so...
Streptococcus iniae is a major fish pathogen that produces invasive infections that result in economic losses in aquaculture. In this study, the draft genome sequence of Streptococcus iniae strain IUSA-1, isolated from a natural outbreak affecting gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) and red porgy (Pagrus pagrus), is presented.
Vibrio renopiscarius DCR 1-4-2(T) (CECT 8603(T)) and DCR 1-4-12 (CECT 8604) were isolated from healthy gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) from Mediterranean fish farms (Castellón, Spain). Their draft genome sequences (30 and 44 contigs, respectively) have 4.3 Mbp and a G+C content of 45.2 mol% and contain almost 3,700 protein-encoding genes.
To shed light on the putative host-mediated lifestyle of the quintessential marine symbiont Aliivibrio fischeri, and on the symbiosis versus potentially pathogenic features of bacteria associated with farmed fish, we report the draft genome sequence of A. fischeri strain 5LC, a bacterium retrieved from gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) larvae.
In this study, the effects of exposure to pyrene, fluorene and a mixture of selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) upon branchial Na (+)/K (+)-ATPase was investigated in juvenile seabream Sparus aurata in a 96 h in vivo experiment. No significant effect was found, and thus it was concluded that branchial Na(+)/K (+)-ATPase is probably not affected by PAH.
