the mating disruption technique has been widely used for the control of several lepidopteran pests. in the present study, we assessed the efficiency of two formulations of splat neo, a wax emulsion containing e-11-hexadecenol, with and without the insecticide cypermethrin, in affecting mating disruption of neoleucinodes elegantalis (guenée). we also determined the best phenological age or stage...

the carob moth, ectomyelois ceratoniae (zeller), (lep.: pyralidae), is an importantly injourious pest on a wide range of plants throughout the world and as well a major pest of pomegranate orchards in iran. insight into the sexual behavior of an insect is indispensable for optimizing the application of pheromone in pest control strategies and while information on reproductive behavior being the...

We previously demonstrated that an alarm pheromone released from male donor Wistar rats evoked several physiological and behavioral responses in recipient rats. However, the pheromone effects on social behavior were not analyzed. In the present study, we examined whether the alarm pheromone affects sexual behavior in male or female rats. When a pair of male and female subjects was exposed to th...

Drosophila melanogaster, Sex Pheromone, Sexual Behavior, Inhibitor, Behavioral Mutant Normal Drosophila males produce a volatile pheromone which inhibits courtship. This chemical cue is not identical to the pheromone made by mated female flies, which also inhibits male sexual behavior. Mutant olfC males, which fail to respond to several organic compounds, are not inhibited by the pheromone made...

Discovery of sexual development in the ascomycete Trichoderma reesei (Hypocrea jecorina) as well as detection of a novel class of peptide pheromone precursors in this fungus indicates promising insights into its physiology and lifestyle. Here we investigated the role of the two pheromone receptors HPR1 and HPR2 in the H. jecorina pheromone-system. We found that these pheromone receptors show an...

The homothallic, filamentous ascomycete Sordaria macrospora is self-fertile and produces sexual fruiting bodies (perithecia) without a mating partner. Even so, S. macrospora transcriptionally expresses two pheromone-precursor genes (ppg1 and ppg2) and two pheromone-receptor genes (pre1 and pre2). The proteins encoded by these genes are similar to alpha-factor-like and a-factor-like pheromones a...

In fungi belonging to the phylum Basidiomycota, sexual compatibility is usually determined by two genetically unlinked MAT loci, one of which encodes one or more pheromone receptors (P/R) and pheromone precursors, and the other comprehends at least one pair of divergently transcribed genes encoding homeodomain (HD) transcription factors. Most species are heterothallic, meaning that sexual repro...

The sexual pheromone of Volvox carter-i elicits drastic changes in the synthesis of extracellular sulfated glycoproteins. Synthesis of at least two sulfated glycoproteins is turned on. Induction of this synthetic capacity is as sensitive to the pheromone (-10-i6M) as the overall process of sexual induction. The earliest response, detectable a few minutes after the application of the pheromone, ...

Sexual courtship is a highly ritualized behavior in many animals. Recent work in the vinegar fly, Drosophila melanogaster, has illuminated how the pheromone cis-vaccenyl acetate modulates sexual behavior in the fly. Chemosensory receptors and a sexually dimorphic circuit activated by this pheromone have been identified. This minireview highlights recent advances in the field of fly courtship.
