Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. The k-torsionless modules are defined in [7] as a generalization of torsionless and reflexive modules, i.e., torsionless modules are 1-torsionless and reflexive modules are 2-torsionless. Some properties of torsionless, reflexive, and k-torsionless modules are investigated in this paper. It is proved that if M is an R-module such that G-dimR(M)

in his paper mentioned in the title, which appears in the same issue of this journal, mehdi radjabalipour derives the cyclic decomposition of an algebraic linear transformation. a more general structure theory for linear transformations appears in irving kaplansky's lovely 1954 book on infinite abelian groups. we present a translation of kaplansky's results for abelian groups into the...

In this note, it is proved that over a commutative noetherian henselian non-Gorenstein local ring there are infinitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable totally reflexive modules, if there is a nonfree cyclic totally reflexive module.

A few years ago, Huneke and Leuschke proved a theorem which solved a conjecture of Schreyer. It asserts that an excellent Cohen-Macaulay local ring of countable Cohen-Macaulay type which is complete or has uncountable residue field has at most a one-dimensional singular locus. In this paper, it is verified that the assumption of the excellent property can be removed, and the theorem is consider...

Let R be a commutative noetherian local ring and consider the set of isomorphism classes of indecomposable totally reflexive R-modules. We prove that if this set is finite, then either it has exactly one element, represented by the rank 1 free module, or R is Gorenstein and an isolated singularity (if R is complete, then it is even a simple hypersurface singularity). The crux of our proof is to...

Let S be a subring of the ring R. We investigate the question of whether S ∩ U(R) = U(S) holds for the units. In many situations our answer is positive. There is a special emphasis on the case when R is a full matrix ring and S is a structural subring of R defined by a reflexive and transitive relation.
