The prevalence of antibodies against Seoul virus was investigated in 655 wild rats (Rattus norvegicus, R. rattus, R. rattus diardii, R. exulans, R. tiomanicus) captured in seven port areas of Indonesia. Twenty-four of 238 R. norvegicus, one of 142 R. rattus and one of 102 R. exulans from two port areas had the antibodies against Seoul virus.
During February 2004 and September 2005, Xenopsylla cheopis were collected from small mammal hosts during rodent-bone disease surveys in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia. During 4 trap nights in Jakarta, 4 rodent species (Rattus exulans, Rattus norvegicus, Rattus tanezumi and Mus musculus) and one shrew species (Suncus murinus) were collected. Rattus tanezumi had the highest X. cheopis load (128 ...

Bartonella rattimassiliensis is a facultative intracellular bacterium isolated from the blood of Rattus norvegicus in Marseille. The present study reports the draft genome of B. rattimassiliensis strain 15908 (CIP 107705(T)).
Norway rats are a globally distributed invasive species, which have colonized many islands around the world, including in the South Atlantic Ocean. We investigated the phylogeography of Norway rats across the South Atlantic Ocean and bordering continental countries. We identified haplotypes from 517 bp of the hypervariable region I of the mitochondrial D-loop and constructed a Bayesian consensu...
Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) were introduced to the Falkland Islands and are detrimental to native passerines. Rat eradication programmes are being used to help protect the avifauna. This study assesses the effectiveness of eradication programmes while using this conservation practice as a natural experiment to explore the ecological resistance, resilience and homeostasis of bird communities...
The Norway or brown rat (Rattus norvegicus) is among the most ubiquitous of rodents. However, the lack of studies describing Norway rat populations from tropical areas have limited our understanding regarding their demography and seasonal dynamics. In this study, we describe seasonal pattern in the abundance, reproductive parameters, and morphometrics of Norway rat populations in Salvador, Braz...
We have identified and determined the sequence and organization of a new rat satellite DNA in Rattus rattus, the roof rat. This satellite DNA, which we call R. rattus satellite I', consists of tandem arrays of a 185 base pair (bp) repeat unit that we call a'. a' is 86% homologous to a 185 bp portion of the 370 bp repeat unit of the previously described rat satellite [Pech et al. (1979) Nucleic ...
rats are capable to harbor various pathogens, among which certain species of zo-onotic parasites are included. a long-term detection of parasite fauna of rats has sporadically been carried out in iran. abundance of these vertebrate pests is of great importance as regards public health issue. the present paper is focused on a digenean trematode plagiorchis muris, obtained during a comprehensive ...
