Congenital quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare cardiac anomaly. More than half of the patients with this abnormality will develop aortic insufficiency in adulthood. It is vital that patients with quadricuspid aortic valve who present with progressive aortic regurgitation undergo valve replacement or repair at appropriate time. Here, we present two cases of quadricuspid aortic valve. We first de...
Background: Congenital heart defect exists from birth but is usually detected in a later stage of life, as in case of quadricuspid aortic valve. A great majority of quadricuspid aortic valves do not have a normal function and often necessitate surgical treatment. Aim: To report a case with quadricuspid aortic valve accompanied with complications. Case Presentation: We present a case of a male d...
Quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare congenital malformation of the aortic valve. Its diagnosis is often missed even with the use of transthoracic echocardiogram. Many of these patients progress to aortic incompetence later in life, hence requiring surgical intervention. In the case described in this report, a 61-year-old woman is presented with the features of congestive heart failure. The preo...
Quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare congenital condition that occurs not only as an isolated anomaly, but also with other cardiac defects. We describe a 10-year-old boy whose aortic stenosis was diagnosed during infancy. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed dilation of the left ventricle, valvular and subvalvular aortic stenosis, bicuspid aortic valve, aortic regurgitation, and mitral valve ...
Quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare congenital anomaly. It may present as an isolated anomaly but is occasionally associated with aortic regurgitation. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (SVA) is also an infrequent congenital anomaly, typically associated with tricuspid aortic valves. There are only a few reported cases of SVA (ruptured) associated with quadricuspid aortic valves in the literature. We ...
BACKGROUND Quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare congenital heart defect. Several different anatomical variations of a quadricuspid aortic valve has been described and aortic regurgitation is the predominant valvular dysfunction associated with quadricuspid aortic valve. CASE PRESENTATION A 68-year-old woman presented with almost a years history of increasing dyspnoea on exertion. The patient h...
We present the case of a 22-year-old man with a congenital mixed aortic valve dysfunction who underwent cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for the assessment of aortic valve morphology and function prior to valve replacement. Cardiac MRI showed a four-leaf-clover aortic valve morphology, the typical presentation of a quadricuspid aortic valve. The patient underwent a successful Bentall pr...
Here we report a rare case of a Chinese female patient presenting with aortic insufficiency due to a quadricuspid aortic valve and Rho negativity. The 64-year-old woman was referred with a 1-month history of dyspnea and cough (NYHA class II). A quadricuspid aortic valve was suspected, and grade 3 aortic regurgitation was identified by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). After admission, the A...
A quadricuspid aortic valve is rare and often incidentally found by echocardiography, surgically, or on post mortem examination. Aortic regurgitation is common and if severe enough can lead to symptoms of dyspnea. We report a case of a quadricuspid aortic valve, which was found by cardiac multidetector computed tomography during a pre-operative assessment for severe aortic regurgitation.
