[1] We investigate the effects of the porosity (and thus permeability) of porous matrix and the fracture aperture on transport in fractured porous media. We do so with detailed lattice Boltzmann simulations on constructed porous media with a single fracture. Both plume spatial moments (the average plume velocity and the dispersion coefficients) and mass transfer coefficients between the facture...

At present study, effects of wall thickness and porosity on the conjugate free convection heat transfer inside a square cavity have been examined. Continuity, momentum and energy equations for fluid and solid matrix phases are governing equations in present work. Mentioned equations and related boundary conditions have been transformed into their non-dimensional forms. They are solved using fin...

A new method is developed to enhance the gas separation properties of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) by interior modification of an inorganic nano-porous particle. Ship-in-a-bottle (SIB), as a novel synthesis strategy, is considered to encapsulate a polyaza macrocyclic Ag-ligand complex into the zeolite Y, which is resulted in a new host-guest nano-composite. It is consequently incorporated into...

1 Fellow, ASME Abstract A semi-empirical model for conduction/convection in a thin “fin-like” porous wall of arbitrary composition and thickness is developed. The model assumes one-dimensional conduction in the porous matrix and one-dimensional flow of the coolant through the wall. Closed form solutions are obtained for a uniform composition and thickness porous wall having an insulated tip. An...

Based on an effective energy conversion method between gas enthalpy and thermal radiation, a multi-layered type of porous air heater has been proposed. In the five layered structure which is analyzed in this work, there are five porous layers which are separated by four quartz glass windows. The main layer operates as a porous radiant burner that products a large amount of thermal radiative ene...

A new noninvasive method is presented for laboratory characterization of fractures in permeable media using relaxation-weighted NMR imaging techniques. The method is based on the fact that relaxation rates in fractures and those in surrounding porous matrix are substantially different. Thus, by selectively suppressing imaging signals from either fractures or porous matrix, one can highlight flu...

Background: One of the main challenges with conventional scaffold fabrication methods is the inability to control scaffold architecture. Recently, scaffolds with controlled shape and architecture have been fabricated using 3D-printing. Herein, we aimed to determine whether the much tighter control of microstructure of 3DP PLGA/β-TCP scaffolds is more effective in promoting osteogenesis than por...

For controlled release and targeted delivery of curcumin in an aqueous medium a method of encapsulating curcumin and magnetic nanoparticles inside porous silica matrix has been developed. Curcumin and superparamagnetic nanoparticles are loaded inside porous silica in a single process. The graphic shows the TEM image of microtomed sample of Fe(3)O(4) particles surrounded by a silica matrix.
