results we found a high number of pai markers such as pai icft073, pai iicft073, pai i536, pai iv536, pai ii j96 and pai ii536 significantly associated with upec. the pai iv536 was the most detected ones among fecal e. coli isolated from healthy people while pai i536, pai ii536 and pai ij96 were not seen. pcr phylogenetic groups typing revealed that uropathogenic strains were mainly found in b2...

background and objectives: enteropathogenic escherichia coli (epec) strains can be detected by serogrouping and the presence of enterocyte attaching- effacing (eae) gene. most epec strains belong to a certain o antigenic group. locus of enterocyte effacement (lee) pathogenicity island contains the eae gene and secretory proteins (esps) that introduce the attaching-effacing lesion. lee inserted ...

We describe the complete sequence of the 15.9-kb staphylococcal pathogenicity island 3 encoding staphylococcal enterotoxin serotypes B, K, and Q. The island, which meets the generally accepted definition of pathogenicity islands, contains 24 open reading frames potentially encoding proteins of more than 50 amino acids, including an apparently functional integrase. The element is bordered by two...

The study of phylogenetic groups and pathogenicity island (PAI) markers in commensal Escherichia coli strains from asymptomatic Chinese people showed that group A strains are the most common and that nearly half of all fecal strains which were randomly selected harbor PAIs.

Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) is one of the main etiological agents of bloodstream infections caused by Gram-negative bacilli. In the present study, 20 E. coli isolates from human hemocultures were characterized to identify genetic features associated with virulence (pathogenicity islands markers, phylogenetic group, virulence genes, plasmid profiles, and conjugative plasm...

The plasticity region of Helicobacter pylori strain J99 is a large chromosomal segment containing 33 strain-specific open reading frames (ORFs) with characteristics of a pathogenicity island. To study the diversity of the plasticity region, 22 probes corresponding to 20 ORFs inside the plasticity region and two ORFs on its boundaries were hybridized to genomic DNA isolated from clinical strains...

In this study we tested 74 Salmonella strains of all eight Salmonella groups and were able to demonstrate the presence of two high-pathogenicity island types in strains of Salmonella groups IIIa, IIIb, and VI. Most high-pathogenicity island-positive isolates produced yersiniabactin under iron-limited conditions and were positive for the high-molecular-weight proteins HMWP1 and HMWP2.
