RATIONALE Infected paratracheal air cysts as the focus of respiratory symptoms can be overlooked in practice because of nonspecific symptoms and physician's scant knowledge for this entity. We report 2 cases of infected paratracheal air cyst diagnosed at chest computed tomography (CT) and bronchoscopy/endobronchial ultrasound. PATIENT CONCERN Two patients visited our hospital with respiratory...
background: paratracheal air cysts (pacs) are extraluminal collections of air mostly located adjacent to the right of the trachea at the level of the thoracic inlet. although, pacs are usually asymptomatic, the lesions do occasionally cause complications such as chronic cough, difficult intubation, and right-sided recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. the purpose of the present study was to demonstr...
Paratracheal air cysts are collections of air adjacent to the trachea. These lesions are usually an incidental finding at routine chest computed tomography (CT) scan, and their frequency is probably underestimated, because almost all patients are asymptomatic.1 Differential diagnosis of paratracheal air cysts includes tracheal diverticulum, pharyngocele, laryngocele, Zenker diverticulum, apical...
We report two cases of paratracheal air cyst discovered incidentally at neck ultrasonography and confirmed at CT. The cysts were located at the inferoposterior aspect of the right lobe of the thyroid. Ultrasonography revealed an ill-defined hypoechoic mass containing hyperechoic foci which mimicked calcifications. Neck CT confirmed the presence of an ill-defined air pocket which communicated wi...
