INTRODUCTION Application of oxidized regenerated cellulose is commonly performed in laparoscopy to achieve hemostasis during surgery. The appearance of an abscess resembles oxidized regenerated cellulose, causing imaging studies to be difficult to interpret. CASE DESCRIPTION We describe the cases of 3 patients who underwent oxidized regenerated cellulose placement during laparoscopic gynecolo...
BACKGROUND Lytic polysaccharide monooxgygenases (LPMOs) are known to boost the hydrolytic breakdown of lignocellulosic biomass, especially cellulose, due to their oxidative mechanism. For their activity, LPMOs require an electron donor for reducing the divalent copper cofactor. LPMO activities are mainly investigated with ascorbic acid as a reducing agent, but little is known about the effect o...
background & importance: the use of local hemostatic agents in neurosurgery is mandatory in order to control the sequelae of intracerebal hemorrhage. it is widely used in oxidized regenerated cellulose (surgicel™). case presentation: a 54-year-old man previously operated for grade ii meningioma came back to our attention due to the onset of left side arm weakness one month after surgery. the ct...
Softwood sulfite bleached cellulose pulp was oxidized with Oxone® and cellulose nanofibers (CNF) were produced after mechanical treatment with a high-shear homogenizer. UV-vis transmittance of dispersions of oxidized cellulose with different degrees of mechanical treatment was recorded. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs and atomic force microscopy (AFM) images of samples prepared f...

Fortisan, cellulose triacetate, and NOroxidized cellulose were pyrolyzed in a vacuum in the temperature range 1800 to 465 0 C. Cotton cellulose and cellulose t ri acetate were also pyrolyzed in nitrogen at atmospheric pressure. The tar yields were in the decreasing order from: Cotton, Fortisan, cellulose triacetate, and oxidized cellulose. The other volatiles consisted mainly of acetic acid, ca...
Absorbable topical hemostatic agents are commonly used in cardiac surgery. In this study, we report an unusual case of an acute ischemic event after coronary revascularization produced by interaction between oxidized cellulose and epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA). An in vitro study was also performed to test the interaction between oxidized cellulose and EACA.
A 58-year-old man with a history of a hypertension, coronary heart disease, and diabetes mellitus type II was referred for evaluation of a rectal tumor. The patient had undergone coronary artery stenting and was taking dual antiplatelet therapy. On colonoscopy he was found to have a laterally spreading tumor, granular type. The polypoid lesion extended from the anal verge, continued on top of i...
The cytotoxicity and in vitro effects of six variously modified types of cellulose (OC--oxidized cellulose, NaOC--oxidized cellulose sodium salt, DAC--dialdehyde cellulose, CMC--carboxymethyl cellulose, MFC--microfibrilated cellulose, and MCC--microcrystalline cellulose) on the inflammatory response in macrophage-like THP-1 cells were examined, with special focus on their ability to influence g...
Nitidon, a highly oxidised pyranone derivative produced by the basidiomycete Junghuhnia nitida, has been isolated and its biological activities evaluated. The structure was determined by spectroscopic methods. Nitidon exhibits antibiotic and cytotoxic activities and induces morphological and physiological differentiation of tumor cells at nanomolar concentrations.
