introduction bladder diverticulum is a result of bladder mucosa and submucosa herniation through the muscularis propria of bladder wall. bladder diverticula are mostly seen in the elderly men in association with benign prostatic hyperplasia (bph). case presentation a 74-year-old man presented with complaints of vague epigastric discomfort, dyspepsia, and mild lower urinary tract symptoms. an ul...
Bladder diverticulectomy is a surgical operation for symptomatic or large bladder diverticula. Typically, bladder diverticula are because of infravesical obstruction, although congenital diverticula can occur that may be large and symptomatic. The ability to excise the diverticulum completely, avoid important adjacent structures, and close the bladder defect in a watertight fashion are key fund...
Hemorrhagic duodenal diverticula are rare and are treated by endoscopy or open diverticulectomy, especially when there is a massive hemorrhage. We report what we believe to be the first instance of urgent laparoscopic diverticulectomy of a large, inflamed duodenal diverticulum with massive hemorrhage. An elderly patient had a screening colonoscopy and additional upper gastrointestinal endoscopy...
The authors aimed to elucidate the indications of transcervical surgical approach and also to review the literature in the treatment of symptomatic Zenker’s diverticulum (ZD), focusing on clear indications for open surgery (diverticulectomy with cricopharyngeal myotomy). The authors analyzed the efficacy of open surgery versus the current standard endoscopic diverticulotomy, focusing on the siz...
• Vol 9 • May 2007 410 Zenker’s diverticulum (pharyngeal pouch) is a well-recognized problem occurring mainly in the elderly patient. Reduced cricopharyngeal compliance may be the underlying pathophysiological mechanism. Symptoms are derived both from the presence of the sac and from the cricopharyngeal abnormality [1] and usually include food regurgitation and dysphagia. Recurrent aspiration p...
Congenital anterior urethral diverticulum (CAUD) is an uncommon condition in children. We describe 2 patients of CAUD who presented with ventral penile swelling; in one, the site of swelling was just proximal to corona which is quite rare. The diagnosis was made on USG and MCU. Both patients had normal renal function. Open diverticulectomy and primary repair was done in both patients.
We report an endoscopically assisted total diverticulectomy for Zenker's diverticulum. Skin incisions were made at the anterior axillary line, the center of the sternum, and the neck as portals for endoscopical instruments. The skin was retracted with hooks which provided an excellent view of the working space. The diverticulum was fully exposed and resected by using a multifire endoscopic stap...
We used transurethral electrovaporization of the diverticular mucosa as the primary treatment for an acquired bladder diverticulum in a female patient. The bladder diverticulum was secondary to bladder outlet obstruction from a previous pubovaginal sling. In comparison to either open or laparoscopic bladder diverticulectomy, transurethral electrovaporization of the bladder diverticulum was effe...
Congenital anterior urethral diverticula are rarely found in children. We present the case of a 1-year-old male child with a congenital anterior urethral diverticulum. This condition can lead to obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms and urosepsis. The clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of this rare condition are discussed in this report. The diagnosis was made using retrograde ...
