AFLP was used to analyze the genetic diversity among Ochrobactrum strains. AFLP patterns showed a great genomic variability that separated the samples into three distinct clusters. Ochrobactrum intermedium was found to be closely related to Brucella abortus S99.
Ochrobactrum species are widespread in the environment and can colonize a wide variety of habitats. Here, we describe the sequencing of a new environmental isolate of Ochrobactrum anthropi isolated from northern Vietnam.
BACKGROUND Ochrobactrum intermedium is an emerging opportunistic pathogen of humans that is closely related to members of the genus Brucella. Earlier, we reported the case of an Indian subject with non-ulcer dyspeptic symptoms whose urease positive gastric biopsy revealed the presence of Helicobacter pylori along with non-Helicobacter like bacteria, eventually cultured and identified as O. inte...
Ochrobactrum anthropi is an occasional cause of nosocomial infections; however, interest in the organism lies in its phylogenetic proximity to the genus Brucella. Here, we present the 4.9-Mb finished genome of Ochrobactrum anthropi ATCC 49687, most commonly used as an exclusionary reference organism.
A healthy 34-year-old man presented with Ochrobactrum intermedium endophthalmitis due to a metallic intraocular foreign body. After vitrectomy, lensectomy, removal of the metallic intraocular foreign body, intravitreal vancomycin and ceftazidime, and systemic ciprofloxacin, intraocular inflammation worsened. Repeat vitreous culture confirmed persistent endophthalmitis due to multidrug-resistant...
Ochrobactrum intermedium is an opportunistic human pathogen found in immunocompromised individuals. We report the case of a north Indian patient with non-ulcer dyspepsia whose gastric biopsy revealed the presence of O. intermedium, along with Helicobacter pylori. Further description of O. intermedium was performed with 16S rRNA (1500 nucleotides) and RecA (1065 nucleotides) gene sequencing, and...
We describe the first clinical case report of infective endocarditis related to Ochrobactrum intermedium infection. The case involved a 23-year-old man receiving dialysis via an internal jugular long-term haemodialysis catheter. He improved with a prolonged course of meropenem and minocycline. Ochrobactrum spp. are recognized as rare emerging opportunistic pathogens.
Ochrobactrum intermedium strain SA148 is a plant growth-promoting bacterium isolated from sandy soil in the Jizan area of Saudi Arabia. Here, we report the 4.9-Mb draft genome sequence of this strain, highlighting different pathways characteristic of plant growth promotion activity and environmental adaptation of SA148.
The diversity of Ochrobactrum anthropi, Ochrobactrum intermedium, Ochrobactrum tritici and Ochrobactrum grignonense in agricultural soil and on the wheat rhizoplane was investigated. O. anthropi was isolated both from soil and from the rhizoplane, O. intermedium and grignonense only from bulk soil, and O. tritici only from the wheat rhizoplane. On the genetic level, the immunotrapped isolates a...
A large collection of bacterial strains, immunotrapped from soil and from the wheat rhizoplane, was subjected to polyphasic taxonomy by examining various pheno- and genotypic parameters. Strains were grouped on (inter) repetitive extragenic palindromic DNA (REP) PCR profiles at the intraspecies level. Pheno- and genotypic characters were assessed for representatives from 13 different REP groups...
