Background: Nocardia asteroides complex is aerobic actinomycete, partially acid-fast and Gram –positive which rarely cause ocular infections especially in immunodeficient persons. Case Presentation: An 83-year-old man with diabetes presented with nasolacrimal duct obstruction to Labbafinejad Hospital Tehran –Iran. According to the clinical examination and microbial assessment cause ...

Nocardia are gram-positive and partially acid-fast bacteria with saprophytic lives in the environment. These groups of bacteria are able to enter the human body through traumatic inhalation and may consequently cause Nocardiosis infections. Case Presentation: A 32-year-old man was referred to Al-Zahra Hospital with symptoms such as fever, gradual weight loss, and persistent coughing. First, th...

nocardiosis has been reported increasingly in recent two decades, probably due to improvement in isolation of the organism and increased burden of immune compromised patients. nocardia occasionally has been reported in healthy people. a case series of definitive nocardiosis (2002 to 2010), clinical characteristics, underlying diseases, immune status and in-patient outcome were studied in a tert...

[No Abstract] Nocardia is a genus of weakly gram-positive, filamentous, aerobic, relatively slow-growing and partially acid-fast bacteria. These bacteria are ubiquities in environmental resources such as water, soil, dust, decomposing animal feces, and vegetables. This group of bacteria can enter the human body through inhalation and traumatic cutaneous inoculation and cause Nocardia infection...

Among Nocardia species causing infections, Nocardia veterana is rarely isolated and is mostly described as causing pulmonary infections. This is the first presentation of a case of brain abscess attributable to an N. veterana infection in a patient with type 2 diabetes. Prolonged antibiotic therapy with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole led to successful clinical recovery.

Lung transplantation is a therapeutic option for the treatment of advanced lung disease. The risk pulmonary infections increased in transplant recipients. We report case coinfection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Nocardia species recipient.

BACKGROUND Nocardia sp. causes a variety of clinical presentations. The incidence of nocardiosis varies geographically according to several factors, such as the prevalence of HIV infections, transplants, neoplastic and rheumatic diseases, as well as climate, socio-economic conditions and laboratory procedures for Nocardia detection and identification. In Brazil the paucity of clinical reports o...

Infections with Nocardia species are generally seen in immunocompromised subjects. In this report, we present a case of pleuropulmonary and skin Nocardia cyriacigeorgici infection in a male patient with Behcet's disease who used corticosteroids and immunosupressives for a long period of time. He died before the diagnosis of Nocardia infection was made.

Nocardia spp. can lead to local or disseminated infections, especially in immunocompromised patients. Combination therapy of amikacin and imipenem is commonly used to treat severe nocardial infections. We describe a patient with imipenem-resistant Nocardia cyriacigeorgica, which, to our knowledge, has not been previously reported among isolates of this species.
