The functions and structures of Mo/Ni/MgO catalysts in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Raman spectroscopy. Thin 2-5-walled CNTs with high purities (over 90%) have been successfully synthesized by catalytic decomposition of CH(4) over Mo/Ni/MgO catalysts...

The influence of Mo alloying on the thermal stability of grain size, dislocation density and hardness of ultrafine-grained (UFG) Ni alloys was studied. The UFG microstructure in alloys with low (∼0.3 at.%) and high (∼5 at.%) Mo contents was achieved by high-pressure torsion (HPT) performed for 20 turns at room temperature. The thermal stability of the two alloys was studied by calorimetry. A Cu...

UNLABELLED Cell culture system has been used to evaluate alloy cytotoxicity under different environments, testing the extracts, but the effect of temperature variation on the cytotoxicity of dental alloys has not been analyzed. OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to investigate if temperature variation could affect dental alloy cytotoxicity, testing alloy extracts in an epithelial cell...

This paper reviews the influence of alloying elements Mo, Nb, Ta and Ni on glass formation and corrosion resistance of Cu-based bulk metallic glasses (BMGs). In order to obtain basic knowledge for application to the industry, corrosion resistance of the Cu-Hf-Ti-(Mo, Nb, Ta, Ni) and Cu-Zr-Ag-Al-(Nb) bulk glassy alloy systems in various solutions are reported in this work. Moreover, X-ray photoe...

Intermetallic compounds are increasingly being expected to be utilized in tribological environments, but to date their implementation is hindered by insufficient ductility at low and medium temperatures. This paper presents a novel multiphase intermetallic alloy with the chemical composition of Mo-40Ni-13Si (at %). Microstructure characterization reveals that a certain amount of ductile Mo phas...

The Ni–Mo alloy system is studied. In contrast to the existing Ni–Mo binary phase diagram that shows three stable compounds, b-Ni4Mo, c-Ni3Mo, and d-NiMo, it is determined that d-NiMo is meta-stable at very low temperatures. It is also discovered that two additional compounds, Ni2Mo and Ni8Mo are stable at 0K. 2004 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The most recently developed high temperature materials are known as in-situ composites or directionally solidified eutectics. Since the composites are formed during solidification, they have excellent morphological stabilities up to near their melting temperatures. The Ni-Al-Mo system has received the greatest attention for recent several years(1)~(3) since the alloy is expected to form a struc...

The effects of Cr, Mo and W on the crevice corrosion of a number of commercial Ni-Cr-Mo (W) alloys in 1.0 mol/L NaCl were studied using the potentiodynamic-galvanostaticpotentiodynamic technique to measure film breakdown and repassivation potentials as well as protection temperatures. As expected, Cr is the key element determining resistance to crevice initiation but a substantial Mo alloy cont...

In this study, Ni-Mo nanocrystalline alloys were prepared on steel substrates by electrodeposition method from citrate-ammonia bath by applying current densities 30, 60 and 100 mA/cm2. Results indicated that the obtained coatings were uniform and compact. Moreover, molybdenum content in the alloy and current efficiency decreased with increasing electrodeposition current density. X-ray diff...
