introduction: ablative and nonablative lasers have been used to treat melasma. we aimed to assess and compare the combining q-switched nd:yag laser (qsnyl) and fractional erbium:yag laser (feyl) with qsnyl alone in treatment of melasma. methods: this randomized controlled clinical trial was performed in our research center during 2013-2014. women with melasma and without a history of keloid for...

Major advances in laser technology at LLE have included the demonstration of high-efficiency frequency doubling and tripling of fusion lasers1 and the development of short-pulse, chirped-pulse-amplification (CPA) lasers2 These technologies were combined a few years ago with the demonstration of 75% efficient frequency doubling of 1.6-ps laser pulses on the CPA T~ (table-top terawatt) system at ...

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a Ba-doped tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum(III) (Alq3) layer were fabricated to reduce the barrier height for electron injection and to improve the electron conductivity. In the OLED consisting of glass/ITO/4,4',4"-tris[2-naphthylphenyl-1-phenylamino]triphenylamine (2-TNATA, 30 nm)/4,4'-bis[N-(1-napthyl)-N-phenyl-amino]-biphenyl (NPB, 18 nm)/Alq3 (42 nm)...

This work explores the room temperature random stimulated emission at 1.064 μm of a Nd:YAG crystal powder (Neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) in a very simple pump configuration with no assistance from an internal mirror. The laser threshold energy as a function of pump beam area and pump wavelength has been measured, as well as the temporal dynamics of emission pulses. The absolute energ...

The title compound, neodymium sesquiselenide, is isotypic with the other known rare-earth metal(III) selenides M(2)Se(3) (M = La-Pr and Sm-Lu) with the cubic C-type structure. It adopts a cation-defective Th(3)P(4)-type arrangement with close to 8/9 of the unique neodymium-cation site occupied, leading to the composition Nd(2.667)Se(4) (Z = 4) or Nd(2)Se(3) (Z = 5.333), respectively. The Nd(3+)...

Neodymium: Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet (Nd-YAG) laser treatment of epithelial ingrowth was found promising with high success rates in cases of primary post-LASIK epithelial ingrowth. However, the application range of this procedure is not well-known. For the first time, the authors report the outcome of a patient treated with Nd-YAG laser for multiple recurrences of post-laser in situ keratomileusi...

We report on a high-power diode-pumped self-mode-locked Nd:YLF laser with the pulse repetition rate up to several GHz. A novel tactic is developed to efficiently select the output polarization state for achieving the stable TEM(00)-mode self-mode-locked operations at 1053 nm and 1047 nm, respectively. At an incident pump power of 6.93 W and a pulse repetition rate of 2.717 GHz, output powers as...

A Nd:YVO4 crystal was pumped directly into the emitting level by a laser diode at 914 nm for the first time to our knowledge. We achieved an output power of 11.5 W at 1064 nm for an absorbed pump power of 14.6 W, corresponding to an optical efficiency of 78.7%. We demonstrated that thermal effects are very weak, in agreement with the low quantum defect of only 14.1%.

A laser-induced optical force trap was used to alter the movement of chromosomes in mitotic cells in vitro. The trap was produced by using a 1.06-microns neodymium YAG (yttrium/aluminum garnet) laser focused through a phase-contrast microscope. The trap was applied to one side of centrophilic chromosomes off the mitotic spindle and to late-moving chromosomes on the mitotic spindle. In both situ...
