BACKGROUND Direct cellular contact with stimulated T cells is a potent mechanism that induces cytokine production in human monocytes in the absence of an infectious agent. This mechanism is likely to be relevant to T cell-mediated inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. Microparticles (MP) generated by stimulated T cells (MPT) display similar monocyte activati...
Methylobacterium extorquens AM1 was used to explore the genetics of dephosphotetrahydromethanopterin (dH(4)MPT) biosynthesis. Strains with mutations in eight "archaeal-type" genes linked on the chromosome of M. extorquens AM1 were analyzed for the ability to synthesize dH(4)MPT, and six were found to be dH(4)MPT negative. Putative functions of these genes in dH(4)MPT biosynthesis are discussed.
The mitochondrial permeability transition (mPT) involves the opening of a non-specific pore in the inner membrane of mitochondria, converting them from organelles whose production of ATP sustains the cell, to instruments of death. Here, I first summarize the evidence in favour of our model for the molecular mechanism of the mPT. It is proposed that the adenine nucleotide translocase (ANT) is co...
BACKGROUND Miriplatin (MPT) is a novel platinum complex used in TACE that shows promise for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, rapid washout has been reported in some cases. Therefore, various methods of administration with MPT have been attempted to increase its therapeutic efficacy. One hopeful method is balloon-occluded TACE (B-TACE), but the therapeutic efficacy of B-...
Methods have been devised to examine the spectral properties and state of reduction of the pterin ring of molybdopterin (MPT) in milk xanthine oxidase and the Mo-containing domain of rat liver sulfite oxidase. The absorption spectrum of the native pterin was visualized by difference spectroscopy of each protein, denatured anaerobically in 6 M guanidine hydrochloride (GdnHCl), versus a sample co...
The molybdenum cofactor (Moco), a highly conserved pterin compound coordinating molybdenum (Mo), is required for the enzymatic activities of molybdoenzymes. In all organisms studied so far Moco is synthesized by a unique and evolutionary old multistep pathway that requires the activities of at least six gene products. In eukaryotes, the last step of Moco synthesis, i.e., transfer and insertion ...
| EEcient support for scalable multipoint-to-multipoint (mpt-mpt) communication in ATM has recently become a hot topic of discussion at the ATM Forum. In our previous study 11], we presented a new class of eecient switch algorithms for point-to-multipoint (pt-mpt) ABR service that deliver high performance in terms of fairness and link utilization and are signiicantly simpler to implement than o...
The mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) plays an important role in hepatocyte death caused by ischemia-reperfusion (IR). This study investigated whether activation of the cellular oxygen-sensing signal cascade by prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors (PHI) protects against the MPT after hepatic IR. Ethyl 3,4-dihyroxybenzoate (EDHB, 100 mg/kg ip), a PHI, increased mouse hepatic hypoxia-inducible...
Mitochondrial production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to up-regulated glucose oxidation is thought to play a crucial, unifying role in the pathogenesis of chronic complications associated with diabetes mellitus. Mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) is an interesting phenomenon involved in calcium signalling and cell death. We investigated the effects of glucose and several of its...
