UNLABELLED The Thrombelastograph((R)) test (TEG; Haemoscope Corporation, Skokie, IL) was used to assess the effects of midtrimester and final-trimester amniotic fluid (AF) on whole blood coagulation. Different volumes of midtrimester and final-trimester AF were added to whole blood from nonpregnant volunteers in a series of TEG tests. The addition of both midtrimester and final-trimester AF res...

BACKGROUND Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) complicates 1% of all pregnancies and occurs in one third of all preterm deliveries. Midtrimester PPROM is often followed by spontaneous miscarriage and elective termination of ongoing pregnancies is offered in many countries. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare midtrimester maternal plasma concentrations of angiopoietin 1, angiopoietin 2, and placental growth factor between pregnant women who subsequently developed preeclampsia and those who did not. METHODS Midtrimester maternal plasma was collected and stored at -70℃ when genetic amniocentesis was performed. Cases included 37 samples of individual who...

We present a case of diaphanospondylodysostosis (DSD) which showed increased nuchal translucency at 1st trimester and missing ossification of the lower spine, short ribs with posterior gaps, and absent nasal bone in midtrimester. Autopsy revealed additionally bilateral nephroblastomatosis. Molecular genetic analysis showed a new mutation in the BMPER gene.

AIMS Our aim is to investigate, in 13 cases (delivering preterm) and 21 matched (for age, parity, and gestational age) controls (delivering at term), whether midtrimester amniotic fluid concentrations of elastase, secretory leukocyte proteinase inhibitor (SLPI), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1, and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule predict asymptomatic intra-amniotic inflammatio...

Congenital infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV) can induce immune responses and placental damage. By use of immunoassay panels, 27 cytokines were assessed in midtrimester amniotic fluid from 8 patients with congenital CMV, in midtrimester sera from 12 pregnant women with primary CMV infection, and in amniotic fluid and serum from uninfected maternal controls. Levels of the cytokines tumor necro...
