Microphthalmos is an ocular abnormality of the eye in which all tissues are significantly smaller than normal. It is subdivided into two categories as simple and complex microphthalmos. The complex type is associated with several ocular abnormalities (1). Posterior microphthalmos is another subtype of microphthalmos which is characterized by normal or near normal anterior segment dimensions, ye...
Congenital bilateral microphthalmos is a rare malformation of the eye, which ranges from extreme to mild reduction of total axial length. Microphthalmos may occur as an isolated ocular abnormality or as part of a systemic disorder, and different classifications of the condition have been attempted. We describe a large pedigree with 14 persons in four generations affected with bilateral micropht...
Posterior microphthalmos is a rare condition which is characterized by the disproportionately small size of the posterior segment of the eye. The corneal diameter, central anterior chamber depth and the lens thickness are all within the normal range. We present a case of posterior microphthalmos with all normal anterior segment measurements except increased corneal curvature.
OCULAR DISORDERS choroidoretinal defects choroidal coloboma, retinal coloboma, macular coloboma, retinal pigmentation changes, retinal flecks corneal defects not including dystrophy microphthalmos (anteposterior globe diameter less than 20 mm, in adult), anophthalmos eye, motility defects nystagmus strabismus convergent, esotropia, misalignment of the visual axes of the eyes eyelids, anomalies ...
UNLABELLED We report the first case report of pars plana lensectomy (PPL) and pars plana vitrectomy using a 25 gauge vitrectomy system for microphthalmos. RESULTS A 45-year-old woman reported repeated pain in her left eye, despite the use of medications. Ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed a narrow angle and thickened sclera. The lens and the iris showed anterior displacement with a flattening ...
The author has experienced a case of microphthalmos with large orbital cyst in a 4 months old female, that was found at the time of birth. To facilitate fitting a cosmetic prosthesis, the microphthalmos with cyst was removed surgically. On serial section I could find an area of discontinuation of the sclera that was suspected to be the defective closure of the embryonic cleft. Some aberrant ret...
