Both thymus-derived (T) and bone marrow-derived (B) lymphocytes participate in the response to a hapten 4-hydroxy-3-iodo-5-nitrophenylacetic acid (NIP), coupled to a nonimmunogenic isologous carrier, mouse gamma globulin (MGG). Spleen cells from mice immunized with NIP-MGG show increased DNA synthesis in vitro when cultured with NIP-MGG. The participation of and requirement for T cells in the r...

INTRODUCTION: Micronuclei (MN) are microscopically visible round or oval cytoplasmic chromatin masses in the extra nuclear vicinity, originating from aberrant mitosis, chromatic fragments or whole chromosomes. The local factors like smoking exerts an influence on oral mucosa cells which are reflected as cellular changes resulting in the formation of MN. AIM: To evaluate and compare the MN index...

Certain gastric disorders affect spatiotemporal parameters of the gastric slow wave. Whereas the electrogastrogram (EGG) evaluates electric potentials to determine primarily temporal parameters, fundamental physical limitations imposed by the volume conduction properties of the abdomen suggest the evaluation of gastric magnetic fields. We used a multichannel superconducting quantum interference...

Matrix Graph Grammars (MGG) is a novel approach to the study of graph dynamics ([15]). In the present contribution we look at MGG as a formal grammar and as a model of computation, which is a necessary step in the more ambitious program of tackling complexity theory through MGG. We also study its relation with other well-known models such as Turing machines (TM) and Boolean circuits (BC) as wel...

This paper investigates the adaptability of genotypes produced by a modified genome growth algorithm (MGG) in a genetic algorithm. MGG uses constructional selection, a genome growth strategy modeled on the evolution of the biological genome [1]. Experiments did not favor the more costly MGG genotypes. This paper also proposes a new type of mutation operator: meth, which is loosely based on DNA ...

The preparation of concentration gradients of reactive molecules is fundamentally important for many research fields including biology, pharmaceutical and chemical engineering (Kim et al. 2010; Lin and Levchenko 2015; Sackmann et al. 2014; Sant et al. 2010; Wu et al. 2010). To generate concentration gradients, microfluidic gradient generators (MGGs), including flow based and (Abe et al. 2015; C...

In the fresh tissues of Prunus mahaleb L., three classes of phenolics were characterised: phenolic acid derivatives (main compound being o-coumaric acid glucoside), quercetin glycosides, and anthocyanins (cyanidin 3,5-diglucoside, cyanidin 3-sambubioside, cyanidin 3-xylosyl-rutinoside and cyanidin 3-rutinoside). Coumarin was also identified. The kernels showed a high content of coumarin (0.87 m...

In the present study, we investigated the influence of cytological stains in analyzing DNA extracted from cytological slides by comparative genomic hybridization (CGH). Multiple imprint cytological slides were prepared for fresh-frozen breast cancer tissue samples and the slides were stained by three staining methods for each sample. Under microscopic observation, cancer cells were selectively ...

For enumeration of intracellular organisms (ICO) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples, the May-Grünwald-Giemsa (MGG) stain displayed higher interobserver agreement than the acridine orange and Gram stains. The MGG stain offered a reliable enumeration of ICO when 200 cells were counted by one observer.
