Monads are a well-established tool for modelling various computational effects. They form the semantic basis of Moggi’s computational metalanguage, the metalanguage of effects for short, which made its way into modern functional programming in the shape of Haskell’s do-notation. Standard computational idioms call for specific classes of monads that support additional control operations. Here, w...
We introduce the arrow calculus, a metalanguage for manipulating Hughes’s arrows with close relations both toMoggi’s metalanguage for monads and to Paterson’s arrow notation.
We present here MXSL, a subset of XSLT re-interpreted as a syntactic metalanguage for RuleML with operational semantics based on XSLT processing. This metalanguage increases the expressivity of RuleML knowledge bases and queries, with syntactic access to the complete XML tree through the XPath Data Model. The metalanguage is developed in an abstract manner, as a paradigm applicable to other KR ...
We introduce a typed metalanguage based on PCF that includes I/O and store operations. We give an applicative characterization of operational equivalence for this language. Finally, we give an example of a translation from an imperative programming language into our metalanguage, and we demonstrate how to use the theory of the metalanguage to reason about terms in the source programming language.
As is known, metalanguage is a language by means of which another language is described. The latter is called object-language. One and the same language may play the role of object-language and metalanguage. For example, the Russian language taken as an object of linguistic description is an object-language, the Russian language used for a linguistic description of Russian is a metalanguage. Th...
We introduce a monadic metalanguage which combines two previously proposed monadic metalanguages: one for staging and the other for value recursion. The metalanguage includes also extensible records as a basic name management facility.
An object-oriented language with automatic synthesis of methods (programs) and transformations of OO descriptions using a logical metalanguage (Horn-clause logic) are considered. Automatic synthesis of methods (Proof-As-Program approach) is based on in-tuitionistic propositional calculus. The metalanguage expresses general knowledge related to classes and objects and it is used for describing t...
