Here we report the presence of Spiroplasma 16S rRNA in populations of two parasitic Leptus mites (Leptus sayi; Leptus lomani) and their Agathemera walking stick hosts. In walking sticks Spiroplasmas were detected in the gut, as well as muscle-tissues, but not in eggs. Throughout Argentina 15.4% of L. sayi populations and 14.3% of L. lomani populations surveyed screened positive for Spiroplasma....
The question whether Trombidium holoserlceum Linn6, is the parent of Leptus autumnalis Latre'flle, (Leptus autumnalis Shaw) does not affect our work o n tsutsugamushi directly. B u t indirectly, in the invest igat ion of the life cycle of the tsutsugamushi, the carrier of tsutsugamushi disease, the question is of importance, because the tsutsugamushi, or akamushi, is almost identical with the E...
New hosts and parasitism notes for the mite Leptus (Acari: Erythraeidae) in Brazil. Larval erythraeid mites are common ectoparasites of harvestmen (Opiliones). Studies describing insects as potential hosts have received little attention. Specimens of an undescribed species of the genus Leptus were collected in association with predatory and phytophagous Heteroptera bugs in a secondary forest in...
A morphology-based redescription of Leptus kattikus Haitlinger, 2009, including re-examination of the holotype and supplemented with data of a series of specimens collected in Vietnam, is provided. Larvae at different levels of engorgement, all separated from one phasmid host, were examined. A polymerase chain reaction, conducted in order to amplify and sequence the DNA of parasitic larvae, res...
The genus Nagelus (Thorne and Malek, 1968) Siddiqi, 1979 is modified and a new species from Alaska is described. The combination of scanning electron microscopy and light microscopy permits the characterization of Nagelus spp. as having a broadly oval face pattern, no longitudinal striations on the lip region, deirids surrounded by six incisures, and an irregularly tapering tail with a large hy...
Mites of family Erythraeidae are parasites in their larval stage and predators in their post-larval stages on a variety of arthropods, among which are important pest species. During 2011-2013, in a faunistic survey of mites associated with beetles of the family Chrysomelidae in Oil and Gas company of Gachsaranregion, Iran. Specimens were preserved in AG (alcohol 75%, glyserin 5%), cleared in la...
