As an alternative immunization procedure against lactococcosis in rainbow trout, encapsulated antigens immobilized in sodium alginate (SA) and poly lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) polymers were administrated as a feed additive. Positive controls were intraperitoneally (IP) administered with aqueous-based bacterin (vaccine) while negative controls were not vaccinated. Positive control groups were im...

Lactococcus garvieae is the etiological agent of lactococcosis disease, affecting many cultured fish species worldwide. In addition, this bacterium is currently considered a potential zoonotic microorganism since it is known to cause several opportunistic human infections. Here we present the draft genome sequence of the L. garvieae strain UNIUD074.

The phenotypic and genetic analysis results for 84 isolates of Lactococcus garvieae (including 62 strains from trout with lactococcosis from four different countries, 7 strains from cows and water buffalos with subclinical mastitis, 3 from water, and 10 from human clinical samples) are presented. There was great phenotypic heterogeneity (13 different biotypes) based on the acidification of sacc...

We announce the draft genome assembly of Lactococcus garvieae strain PAQ102015-99, a recently isolated strain from an outbreak of lactococcosis at a commercial trout farm in the northwestern United States. The draft genome comprises 14 contigs totaling 2,068,357 bp with an N50 of 496,618 bp and average G+C content of 38%.

lactococcus garvieae is the etiological agent of lactococcosis, an emerging disease which affects several fish species and causes important economic losses both in marine and freshwater aquaculture. lactococcosis usually happens when water temperature increases over 15°c during the year. normally, it causes a hyperacute and haemorrhagic septicemia in fish. this paper presents a procedure for pr...

The present study evaluated the effect of Lactobacillus plantarum as a probiotic on the growth performance and haematological parameters of juvenile rainbow trout (O. mykiss) weighing 29.6±1.8 g immunized with streptococcus/lactococcus vaccine. Fish were randomly allocated into 4 equal groups consisting of fish fed with the probiotic  supplemented in diet (group P), fish immunized with streptoc...

We report here the first description in North Portugal of epizootic episodes of lactococcosis causing important mortalities in cultured rainbow trout associated with high water temperatures. The outbreaks that occurred during the warm seasons of 2002 and 2003 affected all size fish, reaching up to 90% mortality in some farms. The taxonomic studies of the isolates obtained indicated that they be...
