AIM The study aimed to develop two Japanese versions of King's Stigma Scale, a full version (KSS-J-1) and a short version (KSS-J-2), through psychometric property testing. METHODS The sample included 112 people with mental illness. We tested the constructs of the scales using both confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were tested. We ex...

Kami-shoyo-san (KSS), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to treat patients with neuropsychiatric disorders. The aim of the present paper was to investigate whether KSS has antidepressant-like effects, and to assess its mechanism of action, using male Sprague-Dawley rats given 10-fold (KSS 10X) or 20-fold (KSS 20X) the typical human daily dosage. Immobility time was measured by the fo...

BACKGROUND The purpose was to investigate whether patient-specific factors (PSF) and surgically modifiable factors (SMF), measured by means of a computer-assisted navigation system, can predict the Knee Society Scores (KSS) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS Data from 99 patients collected during a randomized clinical trial were used for this secondary data analysis. The KSS scores ...

Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS) was first described in 1958 as 'a rare neuromuscular disorder defined by a characteristic triad of progressive external ophthalmoplegia, pigmentary retinopathy, atrioventricular block and cerebellar ataxia'. The prevalence rate of KSS is ∼1-3 per 100 000 individuals. Here, we report a rare case of a 17-year-old Venezuelan male with KSS.

The Initiative of establishing Information Technology (IT) and Community Service Centers, later renamed Knowledge Stations (KSs) was launched in 2001. The KSs initiative is intended to implement IT in local communities (LCs) and remote areas in preparation for the E-Government process. This study develops a model that explores KSs’ role as a partnership in E-Government readiness in Jordan throu...

The beginnings of a methodology for quantifying the performance of knowledge-sources (KSs) and schedulers in a knowledge-based interpretation sys tern are presented. As part of this methodology, measures for the “reliability” of an intermediate state of system processing and the effectiveness of KSs and schedulers are developed. Based on the measures, techniques for simulating KSs and scheduler...

In this paper, we present a new secret sharing scheme, referred to as KSS(I) on the basis of systematic Reed-Solomon code[2]. We show that KSS(I) can be successfully applied to biometrics.

Three Gram-positive, rod-shaped, oxidase-negative, non-spore-forming, non-motile bacteria (KSS-3Se(T), KSS-4Se and KSS-10Se) were isolated from a coolant lubricant. 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses revealed almost identical sequences, with only a few (<10 positions) differences for these three isolates. Comparisons showed the highest similarities to Corynebacterium pilosum NCTC 11862(T) (97.6 % ...

Abstract. This paper presents a reformulation of Krylov Subspace Spectral (KSS) Methods, which build on Gene Golub’s many contributions pertaining to moments and Gaussian quadrature, to produce high-order accurate approximate solutions to variable-coefficient time-dependent PDE. This reformulation serves two useful purposes. First, it more clearly illustrates the distinction between KSS methods...

BACKGROUND Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS) is a rare mitochondrial cytopathy, first described at Mayo Clinic in 1958. AIMS We aimed to define patient and disease characteristics in a large group of adult and pediatric patients with KSS. METHODS We retrospectively searched the Mayo Clinic medical index patient database for the records of patients with KSS between 1976 and 2009. The 35 patients i...
