Deployment of sensors in any irregular terrain with 100% coverage and connectivity is a challenging issue in the field of Wireless Sensor Networks. Traditional deployments often assume homogeneous environments, which ignore the effect of terrain profile as well as the in-network obstacles situated randomly like buildings, trees, roads and so on. Proper deployment of sensors in such irregular re...

suspension system is one of the most important factors in provision of ride comfort and dynamic stability in any vehicle. meanwhile the suspension systems of tracked vehicles, due to their continuous track, have particular specification in comparison with other vehicles. this specification causes tracked vehicles having an improved dynamic stability in off-road maneuvers compared to vehicles wi...

Digital elevation models can represent many types of geographic data. One of the common digital elevation models is the triangulated irregular network (also called TIN, or polyhedral terrain, or triangulated terrain). We discuss ways to represent a TIN in a data structure, and give some of the basic algorithms that work on TINs. These include retrieving contour lines, computing perspective view...

We consider the problem of extracting morphology of a terrain represented as a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN). We propose a new algorithm and compare it with representative algorithms of the main approaches existing in the literature to this problem.

This report describes a prediction technique for the calculation of the field strength of radio waves over irregular terrain paths. The concept of an "equivalent rounded obstacle" is used to account for radio propagation losses over various possible irregular terrain shapes, including shapes which cannot easily be described geometrically. The technique replaces an arbitrary terrain profile with...

A benchmark problem on atmospheric sound propagation over irregular terrain has been solved using a stable fourth-order accurate nite di erence approximation of a highdelity acoustic model. A comparison with the parabolic equation method and ray tracing methods is made. The results show that ray tracing methods can potentially be unreliable in the presence of irregular terrain.

This paper presents a simulation procedure for generating a gait pattern and lateral motion sequence of a six legged robot. Gait pattern was studied and presented in the horizontal plane while lateral motion sequences were analyzed in the sagittal plane. Both analytical and graphical methods are used to study and to present gait and motion analysis over level terrain. Walking over level terrain...

This report deals with multigrid approximations of surfaces. Surface area and volume approximations are discussed for regular grids (3D objects), and surface reconstruction for irregular grids (terrain surfaces). Convergence analysis and approximation error calculations are emphasized. 1 CITR, Tamaki Campus, University Of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand Multigrid convergence of surface approxim...

We have been trying to induce a quadruped robot to walk with medium walking speed on irregular terrain based on biological concepts. We propose the essential conditions for stable dynamic walking on irregular terrain in general, and we design the mechanical system and the neural system by comparing biological concepts with those essential conditions described in physical terms. PD-controller at...

The Digital terrain model is an important geospatial product used as the basis of many practical projects related to geospatial information. Nowadays, a dense point cloud can be generated using the LiDAR data. Actually, the acquired point cloud of the LiDAR, presents a digital surface model that contains ground and non-ground objects. The purpose of this paper is to present a new approach of ex...
