Abstract Background and Objective: Microsporidia is an obligatory intracellular parasite known as an opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients. Its laboratory diagnosis is relatively difficult and modified trichrome staining is a standard diagnostic method for detection of Microsporidia. The aim of present study was to identify intestinal Microsporidia in kidney- transplanted pat...

Microsporidia comprise a phylum of obligate intracellular pathogens related to fungi. Microsporidia Nematocida sp1 strain ERTm6 was isolated from wild-caught Caenorhabditis briggsae and causes a lethal intestinal infection in Caenorhabditis nematodes. We report the genome sequence of N. sp1 ERTm6, which will facilitate study of the Nematocida genus and other Microsporidia.

Introduction: Immunocompromised host has one or more defects in the normal defense mechanisms that protect against infectious agents. Microsporidia are group of protozoa characterized via obligate intracellular and spore formation, detected many hosts. Up till now, 1300 microsporidia species more, related to 150 genera, were, microsporidiosis caused by microsporidia. Objectives: To conduct Mole...

A prospective study of intestinal microsporidiosis in HIV-positive children was conducted at the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health and Phramongkutklao Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. Hospitalized HIV-positive children with and without diarrhea were enrolled in this study. Microsporidial spores identified by calcofluor fluorescent and gram-chromotrope stain were confirmed by electron...

Background Microsporidia have been reported as the cause of opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients in Iran and other countries. There is no data on prevalence of intestinal microsporidia in healthy population of Iran. This study aimed to provide preliminary data on the present status of microsporidia infection in the local healthy population in Jiroft, Kerman Province from south...

Pathogens use a variety of secreted and surface proteins to interact with and manipulate their hosts, but a systematic approach for identifying such proteins has been lacking. To identify these 'host-exposed' proteins, we used spatially restricted enzymatic tagging followed by mass spectrometry analysis of Caenorhabditis elegans infected with two species of Nematocida microsporidia. We identifi...

readily than microscopical examination of processed tissue,6 but this has not been systematically tested. These five cases ofmicrosporidia represent 6 5% of the African HIV positive patients with intestinal symptoms that we saw. Three of the patients also had cryptosporidiosis (diagnosed on faecal smears, though not seen on histological examination). Irrespective of the degree of inflammation, ...
