Background Maize fodder is being used as staple feed for livestock but it lacks protein and essential amino acids; lysine and tryptophan. Intercropping maize with leguminous soybean crop is promising technique under limited land resources of South Korea but it can only give considerable advantages when adequate distance is provided between corn and soybean rows. Main aim of present study was to...

A freeze-fracture study of the motile axostyles of the flagellate protozoa Saccinobaculus and Pyrsonympha has been undertaken in order to obtain a view of the relationships of microtubules and their cross bridges not dependent on conventional preparative procedures. Reactivation studies using isolated axostyles prepared for freeze-fracture and then thawed demonstrate that we are observing the s...

Results from nine experiments to test the effects of ripping or chiselling the interrow of irrigated ratoon cane grown on five Swaziland lowveld soils are reported. There were no statistically significant yield benefits from the treatments and in one experiment, deep ripping resulted in a statistically significant yield reduction.

Weed management systems used by sweet corn growers, including the role of atrazine, are poorly characterized. Management records of 175 fields throughout the major sweet corn production areas of the Midwest were surveyed from 2005 to 2007. Seventy-four percent of sweet corn fields in the Midwest were grown in rotation with soybean or corn. Interrow cultivation was used on 48% of fields, and atr...

In commercial crops, maize (Zea mays) plants are typically grown at a larger distance between rows (70 cm) than within the same row (16-23 cm). This rectangular arrangement creates a heterogeneous environment in which the plants receive higher red light (R) to far-red light (FR) ratios from the interrow spaces. In field crops, the hybrid Dekalb 696 (DK696) showed an increased proportion of leav...

Managed plantations of saltbush have the potential to increase productivity and climate resilience farming systems low rainfall areas world, where livestock are important. The objective was dynamically simulate behaviour grazing with a new modelling capacity in APSIM framework enable dynamic forage systems. Scenarios simulated included: choice plant species growing interrow area between shrub-r...

Glyphosate-resistant biotypes of horseweed (Conyza spp.) have been a constant problematic for coffee growers all over Brazil. Therefore, this work was developed with the objective evaluating efficacy different herbicides, applied isolated or in mixture, control plantation interrows. A field trial performed following treatments (g ha-1): glyphosate at 925, glufosinate-ammonium (GA) 500, saflufen...
