OBJECTIVES To review surgical techniques used in the treatment of laryngoceles over the last two decades and point out developments and trends. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and the JBI Library of Systematic Reviews were searched using the term "laryngocele." Demographic data, type of laryngocele, presence of a laryngopyocele, type of treatment and need for a tracheotomy...
The laryngocele is an abnormal saccular dilatation of the ventricle of Morgagni, which maintains its communication with the laryngeal vestibule. Three types of laryngoceles have been described: internal, external, and combined or mixed in relation to the position of the sac with respect to the thyrohyoid membrane. If the laryngocele becomes obstructed and infected it leads to the so-called lary...
Laryngocele is an air-filled, abnormal dilation of the laryngeal saccule that extends upward within the false vocal fold, in communication with the laryngeal lumen. A case of 43-year-old male with bilateral internal laryngoceles, who has been treated as asthma for 4 years, is presented. The patient had dyspnea, cough, and excessive phlegm for a month and a late onset stridor. Flexible nasophary...

A previously healthy 37-year-old man with an upper airway viral infection presented with a progressive onset of neck pain with odinophagia and pretracheal tenderness after repetitive sneezing efforts. Upon examination, cervical subcutaneous emphysema was the only finding. The chest radiograph confirmed the presence of pneumomediastinum. Cervical and chest CT scans performed during a Valsalva ma...
A laryngopyocele forms when a laryngocele becomes infected and fills with mucopus. We report a case of an internal larngopyocele that presented as airway obstruction in a 34-year-old man; such a presenting sign is exceedingly rare. We also review the anatomy, etiology, and clinical course of the different types of laryngoceles.
Laryngoceles are most frequently treated surgically, but if the patient's airway is compromised by mass effect, general anesthesia may be risky. We describe a technique for percutaneous drainage of postoperative laryngoceles and the outcome in a small series of patients.
Laryngocele is an uncommon condition that represents a benign dilatation of the laryngeal saccule with air and/or fluid, arising in the region of the laryngeal ventricle. Laryngoceles, or laryngomucocele can be classified as internal, or combined. The aim of presenting this rare case of a bilateral combined laryngocele, are to emphasize the importance of diagnostic laryngoscopy in upper airway ...
