This paper described the measurement of acoustic signal generated by partial discharge in insulation oil and analysis of their frequency spectrum to acquire information for diagnosing oil insulated transformers. We designed a decoupler and a low-noise amplifier to detect acoustic signals with high sensitivity. Also, three types of electrode system; the needle-plane, the plane-plane, the wire-wi...

In this article, the new challenges and requirements in wire bonding are discussed, the problems in ultra-fine-pitch wire bonding and insulated wire bonding are analyzed, and then two capillary solutions to the problems are presented. Actual bonding experiments using the new capillaries were carried out and the results were satisfactory. Compared to the standard design, a new capillary design h...

A micro-sectioning approach for characterizing the quality or degradation state of interconnect interfaces in electronic components is described. The method is presented as a means of investigating the bonding quality of the Al wedge bonding process in IGBT modules. Micro-sectioning approach for quality and reliability assessment of wire bonding interfaces in IGBT modules Kristian Bonderup Pede...

As the semiconductor industry continues to move towards higher pin count, finer pitch, multi-row and multistack devices, wire bonding becomes an increasing challenge for today’s advanced packaging processes. Insulated bonding wire technology, known as X-WireTM, has been identified on the 2006 ITRS Roadmap for Semiconductors [1], as a viable, cost-effective solution to enable complex package des...

An insulated nanotube wire is formed by the binary phase of layered tungsten disulphide and carbon nanotubes (shown in the HRTEM image) generated by the sulphidization of tungsten oxide coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes at 900 °C. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the tungsten disulphide coat acts as an antioxidant.

Power substations in an urban area are interconnected by high voltage underground power cables, resulting also in interconnections of their earthing grids through cable metallic screens/sheaths. Most modern power cables with XLPE insulated core have metallic screens which are practically insulated from ground. These screens can only be (and usually are) grounded at cable ends and therefore do n...

Electrocution is not an uncommon cause of death. A case of fatal electrocution by a metal wire that was used as a support for the insulated television cable wire is reported. Electric current flowed through the metal wire when it touched the residential power line. Electrical injury caused because of contact with the live metal wire is described with histopathological findings. This case report...
