elaboration of different toxins by enterotoxigenic e. coli has been considered as one of the main virulence factors contributing to the manifestation of disease caused by these microorganisms. various strategies have been employed to raise antibodies against these toxins as a line of defense. in this study, the 3’ terminus of the gene that codes for the binding subunit of the heat-labile entero...

hepatitis b surface antigen is the first genetically engineered vaccine licensed for human use. various strategies have been proposed to obtain a vaccine that would bypass the need for injection. in this study, a non-toxic portion of heat-stable enterotoxin of escherichia coli that is capable of adhering to epithelial cells was inserted at amino acid position 112 of hepatitis surface antigen. t...

the aim of this study was to determine the frequency of enterotoxigenic and enteroaggregative strains ofescherichia coli in chicken carcasses by polymerase chain reaction (pcr). in this study 63 strains of e. coliwere isolated from 110 samples of chicken carcasses during processing after chilling in the poultry slaughterhouse of shahrekord. polymerase chain reaction assays were used to detect t...

We purified and sequenced the heat-stable enterotoxin produced by Citrobacter freundii. The toxin was detected during purification by reaction with monoclonal antibody to Escherichia coli heat-stable enterotoxin. The C. freundii toxin amino acid sequence was identical to that of the 18-amino-acid heat-stable enterotoxin (STa) produced by toxigenic E. coli.

Strains of Yersinia enterocolitica produce a heat-stable enterotoxin which is positive in the suckling mouse bioassay. Partial purification by a procedure previously worked out for heat-stable Escherichia coli enterotoxin yielded a substance which increases particulate guanylate cyclase activity and short-circuit current and inhibits active Cl-absorption in rabbit ileal mucosa. These effects of...

the role of enterotoxigenic e.coli as a causative agent in diarrheal disease was studied among 100 cases of infant and children 0-2 years of age. routine bacteriological methods were used for identification enteropathogenic e.coli, salmonella, shigella and vibrio cholera. the ability of e.coli strains to produce toxin was assayed in animal models (rebbit-ileal loop and suckling mice) and in tis...

Although most enteropathogenic Escherichia coli strains do not produce recognized enterotoxins, we wished to examine whether they produce any factors like heat-stable enterotoxin b or cholera toxin active subunits that might be missed by conventional assay methods. E. coli strains E851 (O142) and E2348 (O127) that had caused diarrhea in volunteers were negative for heat-labile enterotoxin and h...

Thirty-two strains of Escherichia coli belonging to a new O group, O166, were examined. Twenty-one strains had the flagella antigen H27, five had the H15 antigen, five had the H7 antigen, and one was nonmotile. All the H27 strains and the nonmotile strain produced heat-stable enterotoxin but not heat-labile enterotoxin. All the H7 strains produced heat-labile enterotoxin but not heat-stable ent...

A comparison of heat-stable enterotoxins from Escherichia coli and Yersinia enterocolitica by the suckling mouse bioassay showed that whereas E. coli heat-stable enterotoxin evoked a maximum ratio of gut weight to remaining body weight after a 4-h incubation period, the maximum ratio for Y. enterocolitica was achieved at 2 h, decreasing thereafter to values regarded as negative (less than 0.083...
