The robust jaws and large, thick-enameled molars of the Plio-Pleistocene hominins Australopithecus and Paranthropus have long been interpreted as adaptations for hard-object feeding. Recent studies of dental microwear indicate that only Paranthropus robustus regularly ate hard items, suggesting that the dentognathic anatomy of other australopiths reflects rare, seasonal exploitation of hard fal...

This article introduces a new non-pillar coal mining technology (i.e., Gob-side Entry Retaining by Roof Cutting (GERRC)) under the condition of thick and hard roofs. First, we theoretically analyzed solution to large suspension span roof in mining. Three-Zone pre-split blasting design for roofs was proposed, based on principles rock mechanics. After field experiments, successfully applied huge ...

The East African hominin Paranthropus boisei was characterized by a suite of craniodental features that have been widely interpreted as adaptations to a diet that consisted of hard objects that required powerful peak masticatory loads. These morphological adaptations represent the culmination of an evolutionary trend that began in earlier taxa such as Australopithecus afarensis, and presumably ...

Conglomerates are generalized frameworks for informetric research. In this article, the h-index of a conglomerate is defined and it is shown how this construction generalizes the standard definition of the h-index. It is further shown how non-trivial constructions, such as Prathap’s h-indices, fit well into a conglomerate framework. An example illustrates the use of the conglomerate framework.

This paper studies the announcement returns to diversifying mergers from 1950 to 2002. It is widely believed that corporate diversification destroys value, but we find that combined (bidder + target) announcement returns were significantly positive for diversifying mergers throughout the period. The return from diversifying mergers fell after the 1970s, consistent with the view that investors s...

this paper proposes an extension of markov chain model to characterize of geological formations and to make conditioning on any number of well data possible. in this study, lithofacies cycles of the amiran formation at type and pirshamsedin sections are examined by markov method and entropy analysis as well as field observations, and depositional environment has interpreted by proposed ideal se...
