New X-ray observations of the sparse NGC 3258 group of galaxies made by the ASCA satellite with good spectral and spatial resolution has revealed that this group has a gravitational potential deep enough to prohibit significant mass removal from the system. The baryonic fraction within 240h 50 kpc is found to be 0.065 −0.020 for h50 = 1, where h50 ≡ H0/50 km s Mpc, in good agreement with the un...

A hypothesis was tested that the in ovo injection of biological buffers may reinforce the buffering capacity of albumen, thereby withstanding the increase in albumen pH during storage and improving hatchability and chick quality in long-term stored eggs. Hatching eggs (n = 2,420) were randomly assigned to 11 treatment groups (4 replicates of 55 eggs each) and injected (d 1) with distilled water...

Application of intercropping systems is one of the ecological methods for controlling weeds due to maximization of soil cover and plant diversity. In order to study the effect of intercropping system of indigo (Indigofera tinctoria L.) and roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) on biodiversity, weeds population changes and plant yield an experiment was conducted based on randomized complete block des...

Nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) is a secondary plant metabolite with antimicrobial properties, and therefore may have potential as a rumen modifier. Two in vitro experiments were conducted to determine the usefulness of NDGA as a rumen modifier. Exp. 1 evaluated the effect of adding 0, 5, 10, 50, and 100 mg/mL NDGA on growth of pure and mixed cultures of rumen bacteria. Growth of all cultures ...

Most proteomics studies examine one blood specimen per participant; however, it is unknown how well measures at one time point reflect an individual's long-term proteome pattern. Therefore, we examined the stability of the proteome over 3 years in postmenopausal women not taking hormones for at least 3 months using surface-enhanced laser desorption and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometr...

Using a biomedical sensor setup RIfS we have investigated the kinetic behavior of bovine serum albumin (BSA), human fibrinogen (FIb) and human IgG adsorbed onto surfaces of hydroxyapatite (HA) and polyurethane (PU) H50-50. According to the operation principle of RIfS and the molecular dimensions of three kinds of proteins, a formula to calculate the adsorbed layers of proteins onto the surface ...

Introduction: Noise and spatial resolution (SR) are the main characteristics of image quality in CT scanning affected by different radiation and technical parameters. One of the important parameters are reconstruction kernels. Different reconstruction kernels are used for noise reduction and/or edge-enhancement purposes. In this study, we investigate some reconstruction kern...

We use a panel of 155 countries for 1970-2010 to study (two-way) causality between government spending, revenue and growth. Our results suggest the existence of weak evidence supporting causality from expenditures or revenues to GDP per capita and provide evidence supporting Wagner’s Law. JEL: C23, E62, H50.

Bos taurus and indicus cattle subspecies present different capabilities in coping with situations of elevated temperatures, the latter being more tolerant to heat stress. Thus, some breeding programs crossed these produce a high producing yet heat-tolerant breed (Girolando). Nineteen Holstein (H100) 19 Girolando cows [(½ × Gir (H50) ¾ (H75)] similar milk production were used six-day experime...
