during a study on fauna of the frit flies (diptera: chloropidae) in khorasan razavi province (iran) in 2014 and 2015, nine species of six genera were collected and identified. platycephala rugosa (nartshuk, 1964) is recorded for the first time for iranian fauna. geographical distribution and biological notes are provided.
Abstract The interaction between Botanophila flies and Epichloë fungi is one of the few interactions in which grass-associated are ‘pollinated’ by flies. We analysed gains losses for both partners time factors determining cost dynamics. A hypothesis regarding relationship changes severity grass infection with fungus, size fungal sexual structures (stromata), fly presence (expressed as egg larva...
Sir,?In the Indian Medical Gazette of (i) January 1938, page 17, (?) April 1938, page 254, (Hi) August 1938, page 468, you published articles and letters on the subject of the breeding places of Siphunculina junicola. Since 24th March, 1937, I have been carrying out an investigation to try and find out the natural breeding places of the Siphunculina junicola fly in this area. I can now report d...
Four species of Tonnoira from the Brazilian Atlantic forest are described and illustrated: Tonnoira brisolaii sp. nov, Tonnoira ferreirai sp. nov., Tonnoira andradei sp. nov. and Tonnoira galatiae sp. nov.
The oxidation of 3,5-di-tert.-butylphenyl N-methylcarbamate (Butacarb) has been studied in the flies Musca domestica and Lucilia sericata, grass grubs Costelytra zealandica and the mouse. In all species eleven oxidation products, which were formed by hydroxylation of the tert.-butyl groups and the N-methyl group, were detected.
Stable flies (Stomoxys calcitrans L.) are blood-feeding pests of cattle, whose populations are often monitored using sticky traps. Trap responses at different heights were compared with: 1) a choice and no-choice test, with sticky cards set at 30 and 121 cm heights (above ground), and 2) tall (120 cm) traps placed in short (3 cm) and tall (40 cm) grass to assess how vegetation height affects tr...
Two new species of Psychodinae, Psychodidae, from the semi-arid region of Brazil are described and illustrated: Arisemus rubeni sp. nov. and Lepidiella olgae sp. nov. Only nine psychodid species were previously known from that region.
Introduction: Flies are able to mechanically transmit many pathogenic agents due to their close relationship with humans. Identification and species determination of flies for understanding of their current status and planning for their control, as well as considering the important role of flies in the ecosystem and their biological functions in biological studies, is essential. The purpose of ...
