Large, atypical peripheral ossifying fibromas are known as giant peripheral ossifying fibromas. These lesions have often been associated with heterogeneous clinical and radiographic characteristics subsequently leading to their misdiagnosis. Biopsies have been the gold standard for the diagnosis of such lesions. This study reports on an acute presentation of giant peripheral ossifying fibrom...
Gingival overgrowths found in the oral cavity are mostly due to reactive hyperplasia and rarely depict neoplastic nature. It is a challenge for the clinician to give final diagnoses of gingival overgrowth. Gingiva is a common site for various benign and malignant lesions. Oral cavity is an ideal niche for the manifestation of various precancerous and cancerous lesions. Fibrous growths present i...
The gingiva is frequently the site of localised growths that are thought to be reactive rather than neoplastic. Many these lesions difficult identify clinically and can only identified as a distinct entity based on typical consistent histomorphology. One such lesion peripheral ossifying fibroma. It has been described using various synonyms arise from periodontal ligament, which accounts for app...
Patients that have an allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant are susceptible to developing chronic graft versus host disease (cGvHD). Often the oral mucosal is significantly altered due to this process. Occasionally, non-gingival soft tissue growths (NGSTG) also complicate the clinical presentation. We describe a patient that had oral cGvHD and NGSTG and discuss the challenges to treatment.
Introduction Gingival growths are one of the most frequently encountered lesions in the oral cavity. Most of these lesions, such as irritational fibroma, pyogenic granuloma, peripheral ossifying fibroma and peripheral giant cell granuloma, are innocuous and rarely present with aggressive features. In majority of cases, these lesions are the result of trauma or chronic irritation. One of the inf...
Purpose: Gingival growths are one of the most frequently encountered lesions in the oral cavity. Most of these lesions are innocuous, but some do have malignant potential. Different lesions with similar clinical presentations make it difficult to arrive at a correct diagnosis. One of the infrequently occurring gingival lesions is peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF). Lesions with histological fea...
Gingival growths are one of the most frequently encountered lesions in the oral cavity. A plethora of lesions can be seen having similar clinical presentation, making diagnosis a dilemma. Peripheral odontogenic tumors are rare neoplasms to occur on gingiva, the most common among them being the peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POdF). The POdF is a benign, slow-growing, exophytic lesion. Although ...
The gingiva is often the site of localized growths that are considered to be reactive rather than neoplastic in nature. Many of these lesions are difficult to be identified clinically and can be identified as specific entity only on the basis of typical and consistent histomorphology. Peripheral ossifying fibroma is one such reactive lesion. It has been described with various synonyms and is be...
Introduction: The gingiva is often the site of localized growths that are considered to be reactive rather than neoplastic in nature. Peripheral ossifying fibroma is one such reactive lesion. This case report documents a case of a 15-year-old girl with a large peripheral ossifying fibroma in the posterior maxilla showing significant growth and interference with occlusion. Methods: Review of lit...
