We investigated the antitumor activities of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), 5'-deoxy-5-fluorouridine (5'-DFUR), 1-hexylcarbamoyl-5-fluorouracil (HCFU) and 1-(tetrahydro-2-furanyl)-5-fluorouracil (FT-207) in combination with hyperthermia in vitro. The antitumor effect of 5-FU (10(-4) M) was slightly enhanced by combination with hyperthermia (42 degrees C) for 2h, and the effect was determined to be addit...

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of hirudin have been recorded from the native solid hirudin. The conformation of the molecule has been discussed on the basis of IR and Raman data. It has been concluded that hirudin molecule has a mixed a-helix and random coil conformation.

objective: the use of hema as a biocompatible material in dentin bonding systems and its potential for clinical applications has been well established. excess water can affect conversion of bonding resins. the aim of this study was to survey the effect of water on the degree of conversion of hema by fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (ft-ir). materials and methods: in this experimental st...

An FT-IR Spectrometer is an instrument which acquires broadband NIR to FIR spectra. Unlike a dispersive instrument, i.e. grating monochromator or spectrograph, an FT-IR Spectrometer collects all wavelengths simultaneously. This feature, called the Multiplex or Felgett Advantage, is discussed in detail on page 3. FT-IR Spectrometers are often simply called FT-IRs. But for the purists, an FT-IR (...

INTRODUCTION The altitude threshold for decompression sickness (DCS) symptoms has been variously described as being 18,000 ft (5,487 m) to above 25,000 ft (7,620 m). Safety and efficiency of aerospace operations require more precise determination of the DCS threshold. METHODS Subjects were 124 males who were exposed to simulated altitudes (11 at 11,500 ft; 10 at 15,000 ft; 8 at 16,500 ft; 10 ...

The Hydromechanics Laboratory supports midshipmen education, as well as midshipmen, faculty and staff research, in the areas of naval architecture and ocean engineering. The laboratory facilities include a large towing tank (380-ft long, 26ft wide, and 16-ft deep), a small towing tank (120-ft long, 8-ft wide, and 5-ft deep), a coastal engineering wave basin (52-ft long, 48-ft wide, and 2-ft dee...

BACKGROUND Accurate measurement of free thyroxine (FT(4)) is important for diagnosing and managing thyroid disorders. Most laboratories measure FT(4) by direct analogue immunoassay methods. The validity of these methods have recently been questioned. The inverse log-linear relationship between FT(4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is well described and provides a physiological rationale o...
