Rheological object, such as various food products and biological tissues, has both elastic and plastic properties. Modeling of rheological object has not been studied frequently comparing with the modeling of elastic one. Our previously developed FE models of rheological objects were based on triangular or tetrahedra finite elements. In this paper, the FE model of rheological object formulated ...
We evaluated the inducibility of nitrate-dependent Fe(II)-EDTA oxidation (NDFO) in non-growth, chloramphenicol-amended, resting-cell suspensions of Dechloromonas sp. strain UWNR4 and Acidovorax sp. strain 2AN. Cells previously incubated with Fe(II)-EDTA oxidized ca. 6-fold more Fe(II)-EDTA than cells previously incubated with Fe(III)-EDTA. This is the first report of induction of NDFO by Fe(II).
We discuss, in this paper, a flux-free method for the computation of strict upper bounds of the energy norm of the error in a Finite Element (FE) computation. The bounds are strict in the sense that they refer to the difference between the displacement computed on the FE mesh and the exact displacement, solution of the continuous equations, rather than to the difference between the displacement...
In this paper, results extracted from a set of stress analyses performed on 46 FE models for unstiffened gap tubular KT-joints are presented and discussed. The main objective of the FE analyses, validated against experimental data, was to run a parametric investigation on the effects of geometrical characteristics of the joint on the values of the stress concentration factors (SCFs). The SCF is...
Suppose a graph-directed iterated function system consists of maps fe with upper estimates of the form d ( fe(x), fe(y) ) ≤ red(x, y). Then the fractal dimension of the attractor Kv of the IFS is bounded above by the dimension associated to the Mauldin–Williams graph with ratios re. Suppose the maps fe also have lower estimates of the form d ( fe(x), fe(y) ) ≥ r e d(x, y) and that the IFS also ...
This paper investigates ways to reduce redundancy in forbidding sets for language forbidding-enforcing systems. A language forbidding set disallows combinations of subwords in a word, while permitting the presence of some parts of these combinations. Since a forbidding set is a potentially infinite set of finite sets of words, finding normal forms for forbidding sets is interesting from a combi...
Photoionization and recombination cross sections and rate coefficients are calculated for Li-like Fe XXIV and He-like Fe XXV using the Breit-Pauli R-matrix (BPRM) method. A complete set of total and level-specific parameters is obtained to enable X-ray photoionization and spectral modeling. The ab initio calculations for the unified (e + ion) recombination rate coefficients include both the non...

This article deals with the computation of guaranteed lower bounds of the error in the framework of finite element (FE) and domain decomposition (DD) methods. In addition to a fully parallel computation, the proposed lower bounds separate the algebraic error (due to the use of a DD iterative solver) from the discretization error (due to the FE), which enables the steering of the iterative solve...
