The residue levels of Endrin were estimated in cucumber (Cucumis sativus) samples showed that 35.5% contained endrin residues ranging from 304.3 to 669.4 ug per 100 g vegetable. The calculated daily consumption of endrin by human population, thus falls between 13.1 and 28.7 ug per kg body weight. The disappearance of endrin in cucumber was also noted after spraying the insecticide in an experim...
The effects of selected chlorinated cyclodiene pesticides on the adipocyte differentiation process were examined using the 3T3-L1 adipocyte model in vitro. Endrin was found to cause a dose-dependent inhibition of adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells. Aldrin and dieldrin were less potent than endrin in interfering with the adipogenic process. Endrin's inhibitory effect was effective only wh...
Endrin toxicity may be due to an oxidative stress associated with increased lipid peroxidation, decreased glutathione content, and inhibition of glutathione peroxidase activity. Extensive interspecies variability exists in sensitivity towards endrin. Therefore, histopathological changes and lipid peroxidation in the livers and kidneys of rats, mice, hamsters, and guinea pigs were examined 24 hr...
The residue levels of Endrin were estimated for two vegetables, i.e., raddish (Raphanus sativus) and cabbage (Brassica oleracia). Samples were collected from fields and markets. The disappearance of endrin in raddish was also noted after spraying. Ten percent of raddish and 30 percent samples of cabbage were found to contain large amounts of the insecticide ranging from199.4 ± 6.8 to 388.7 ± 16...
Twenty microbial cultures which had been shown to degrade dieldrin were tested to determine their ability to degrade endrin, aldrin, DDT, gamma isomers of benzenehexachloride (gamma-BHC), and Baygon. All isolates were able to degrade DDT and endrin, whereas 13 degraded aldrin. However, none of them was able to degrade Baygon or gamma-BHC.
