background: radiofrequency catheter ablation (rfca) has been introduced as the treatment of choice for supraventricular tachycardia. the aim of this study was to evaluate the success rate as well as procedural and in-hospital complications of rfca for the treatment of atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (avnrt). methods: between march 1995 and february 2009, 544 patients (75.9 % fema...
A case of cardiomyopathy with systemic emboli is reported. Two dimensional and M-mode echocardiography showed abnormal intracavitary echoes. After further systemic emboli, echocardiograms showed the complete disappearance of the abnormal echoes found previously in the apex, which suggested that the emboli resulted from detachment of the left ventricular mural thrombi.
tumor-promoting agents, but, whether they have substrates other than PKC or whether activation of PI pathway alone causes transformation remains elusive-a topic briefly addressed in chapter 8 by Malcolm Whitman et al. of Tufts University. The chapter by Robin Irvine of Cambridge University on the biochemistry and analysis of inositides is interesting and practical. His writing is clear, and the...
Nephrotic patients are at risk of developing venous and arterial thromboses. Various organ manifestations have been reported. Intracardiac thrombi associated with multiorgan thrombosis have been reported in autopsy in the earlier literature, but there is only one case report in living patients with nephrotic syndrome. Here we report a 9-year-old boy with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome who...
Spike sorting is a class of techniques used in the analysis of electrophysiological data. Studying the dynamics of neural activity via electrical recording relies on the ability to detect and sort neural spikes recorded from a number of neurons by the same electrode. This article reviews methods for detecting and classifying action potentials, a problem commonly referred to as spike sorting.
Electrophysiological techiniques lhave been wiclely uised for the investigation of membrane properties in excitable andl inexcitable tissues. The application of suclh metlho(ds to epitlhelia lhas been extensive, particuilarly for structures that can be mounte(d as an isolated tisstue slheet in special chambers designed to control the bathing soltutions. Witlh respect to the sttu(ly of the renal...
The patch-clamp technique has revolutionized studies of ion channels in a wide variety of cells. Its development in the late 1970s and early 1980s made it possible to analyze the currents of single ion channels. However, electrophysiological recordings of these proteins were limited to the plasma-membrane of living cells: the small size and the doublemembrane organization of some cell organelle...
Emotional conflict refers to the influence of task irrelevant affective stimuli on current task set. Previously used emotional face-word tasks have produced certain electrophysiological phenomena, such as an enhanced N450 and slow potential; however, it remains unknown whether these effects emerge in other tasks. The present study used an emotional body-word conflict task to investigate the neu...
