Edwardsiella tarda was isolated from the intestinal tract of a 2-month-old pig. This is the first reported isolation of Edwardsiella tarda from swine in the United States. Swine have been reported as potential carriers of Edwardsiella tarda, but pathogenicity of this organism for swine has not been determined. Although the pig had access to several farm ponds, the exact source of infection was ...

Edwardsiella tarda has recently been described as a member of the family Enterobacteriaceae. The genus Edwardsiella contains three species; E. hoshinae, E. ictaluri and E. tarda. Edwardsiella tarda is the only species which has been recognised as pathogenic to humans, especially in those with an underlying disease. The most common presentation is watery diarrhoea. Extra intestinal infections ha...

BACKGROUND Edwardsiella tarda is an Enterobacteriaceae found in aquatic environments. Extraintestinal infections caused by Edwardsiella tarda in humans are rare and occur in the presence of some risk factors. As far as we know, this is the first case of near-drowning-associated pneumonia with bacteremia caused by coinfection with methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus and Edwardsiella ta...

Edwardsiella tarda (E. tarda) is a rare human pathogen; however, the overall mortality of bacteremia is reported to be up to 50%. Here, we describe a case of cholangitis with E. tarda bacteremia who had a pancreatoduodenectomy for a locally advanced gastric cancer. He was successfully treated using a cefmetazole, a second generation cephalosporin for 14 days. To the best of our knowledge, this ...

Edwardsiella tarda is an important pathogen for fish. The strain NCIMB 2034, obtained from the National Collection of Industrial Food and Marine Bacteria, was isolated from unknown diseased fish in the United States. The draft genome sequence has 3.79 Mb with a G+C content of 57.1% and >3,340 protein-coding genes.

We present the complete genome sequence for a novel Edwardsiella ictaluri-specific bacteriophage, PEi21, isolated from river water in Japan. An initial comparative genome analysis revealed that the phage was closely related to the previously reported Edwardsiella tarda phage MSW-3 isolated from a red sea bream farm in Japan.

Edwardsiella tarda is pathogen of fish and other animals. The aim of this study was to investigate the viable but nonculturable (VBNC) state and virulence retention of this bacterium. Edwardsiella tarda CW7 was cultured in sterilized aged seawater at 4 degrees C. Total cell counts remained constant throughout the 28-day period by acridine orange direct counting, while plate counts declined to u...

Edwardsiella piscicida is a new species discovered within the group of organisms traditionally classified as Edwardsiella tarda. We present draft genome sequences of two variant strains of E. piscicida, JF1305 and RSB1309. Differences in protein-coding sequence between these isolates are associated with virulence, disease, and defense, suggesting differences in pathogenicity.

The incidence of Salmonella and Edwardsiella tarda in gull feces on the Oregon coast was studied to determine the role these birds may have in the contamination of fish products with these organisms. Approximately 2.1 and 0.4% of 521 fecal specimens examined were found to contain Salmonella or E. tarda, respectively.

Citrobacter koseri, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Edwardsiella tarda, Yersinia enterocolitica, Alkalescens dispar, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Vibrio alginolyticus were seven interesting microorganisms isolated recently in our diagnostic laboratory.
