The Duane syndrome is a strabismus syndrome which is characterized by congenital non-progressive horizontal ophthalmoplegia which primarily affects the abducens nerve. Approximately 70% of the individuals with the Duane syndrome have an isolated disease. We have described here, a case of bilateral Duane syndrome with associated anamolies.
Duane Syndrome is a rare disorder, also known as Stilling-Turk-Duane Syndrome, which can produce form of congenital strabismus, most often sporadic, presented by autosomal dominant inheritance, leading to difficulties in ocular motility due alterations or failures the innervation lateral rectus muscle innervated Vl cranial nerve. On this occasion, limitation absence abduction, retraction eyebal...
purpose: to report a case of duane's retraction syndrome with dry eye. patient and findings: an 18-year-old girl presented with chief complaint of limited abduction in her right eye. best corrected visual acuity was od: 8/10 and os: 9/10. ocular motility examination revealed severe abduction limitation (-4), mild adduction limitation (-1), and moderate upshoot and mild downshoot in the rig...
purpose: to report a case of cystinosis and idiopathic intracranial hypertention associated with duane syndrome type i. case report: a 15 years old girl and a known case of nephrotic cystinosis presented to eye clinic with complaints of lid fissure changes on horizontal gaze and headache since 6 months ago. she was obese and had short stature. she had history of kidney transplantation 6 years a...
BACKGROUND Duane retraction syndrome (DRS) is the most common of the ocular congenital cranial dysinnervation disorders .This study evaluates the types of Duane syndrome and its management in patients presenting to the paediatric and strabismus unit of a tertiary care eye hospital. METHODS This case series study involved 41 patients diagnosed with Duane syndrome between January 2007 and Decem...
purpose: to report and review a rare variant of duane's syndrome named synergistic divergence and its surgical results. patient and findings: a 16-year-old girl presented with left face turn and reduced vision in both eyes. best corrected vision was od: 3/10 and os: 10/10. there was severe adduction deficiency of the re with simultaneous abduction of the re in left gaze. she had xt= 35 in ...
INTRODUCTION The surgical correction of anomalous movement such as upshoot in Duane syndrome is challenging. Lateral rectus muscle disinsertion and reattachment to the lateral orbital wall is a new approach used to minimize or eliminate the effects of co-contraction including globe retraction, palpebral fissure narrowing and anomalous vertical movement. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of a...
BACKGROUND Duane retraction syndrome (DRS) consists of abduction deficit, globe retraction and upshoots or downshoots with adduction. The abducens nerve on the affected side is absent in type 1 DRS. After bilateral medial rectus muscle recession in unilateral type 1 DRS may improve the abduction limitation, but still more than -3 limitation remains. CASE PRESENTATION A 6-month-old boy present...
