Rash with DERMABOND PRINEO Skin Closure System Use in Bilateral Reduction Mammoplasty: A Case Series
Background. Bilateral reduction mammoplasty is a common plastic surgery procedure that can be complicated by unfavorable scar formation along incision sites. Surgical adhesives can be utilized as an alternative or as an adjunct to conventional suture closures to help achieve good wound tension and provide an adequate barrier with excellent cosmesis. The recently introduced DERMABOND PRINEO Skin...
PURPOSE To prospectively compare the efficacy of 2-octylcyanoacrylate (Dermabond; Ethicon Inc, Somerville, NJ) with standard suture repair in the management of nail bed lacerations. METHODS Forty consecutive patients with acute nail bed lacerations were enrolled in this study. Eighteen patients were randomized to nail bed repair using Dermabond (2-octylcyanoacrylate), and 22 were randomized t...
We present a case of allergic contact dermatitis in a patient after multiple orthopaedic procedures. The patient demonstrated a foreign body reaction as well as classic contact dermatitis in response to two exposures to Dermabond. Both reactions were successfully treated with topical corticosteroids. As the popularity of Dermabond increases within the medical community, awareness of potential c...
A 30-year-old patient presented with a pruritic rash on the thighs 24h after knee surgery, in which Dermabond® had been used for wound closure. The pruritic rash had extended within a few hours. The initial lesions showed localized eczema, followedwithin 24h by a poorly defined erythematous, partly papular/urticarial and vesicular rash that extended to the thigh (Fig. 1). The patient was treate...
Cyanoacrylate (CA) is most widely used as a medical and commercial tissue adhesive because of easier wound closure, good cosmetic results and little discomfort. But, CA-based tissue adhesives have some limitations including the release of cytotoxic chemicals during biodegradation. In previous study, we made prepolymerized allyl 2-CA (PACA) based tissue adhesive, resulting in longer chain struct...
A llergic contact dermatitis to 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (Dermabond; Ethicon, Somerville, NJ) after surgical repair is an extremely rare condition with few reported cases. In recent years, contact dermatitis to Dermabond has been reported with increasing frequency. Cyanoacrylates are the most commonly used surgical adhesives and rely on their rapid polymerization to prevent sensitization from anti...
We describe a newly designed technique for the quick, easy, and cost-effective fixation of mesh skin grafts in a range of skin conditions and patients. We fixed the skin graft using octyl-2-cyanoacrylate (Dermabond; Ethicon), which was termed "Dendritic bonding." This technique exhibits several advantages over surgical stapling and suturing with absorbable sutures.
Cyanoacrylate glues have been used in various surgical specialties for primary wound closure or as a supplement to other methods. We assessed the overall results and safety of this technique following primary hip arthroplasty. Ninety-three patients undergoing primary total hip replacement were studied. The surgical wound had been closed with subcuticular vicryl followed by the application of to...
Mammalian digit regeneration progresses through consistent stages: histolysis, inflammation, epidermal closure, blastema formation, and finally redifferentiation. What we do not yet know is how each stage can affect others. Questions of stage timing, tissue interactions, and microenvironmental states are becoming increasingly important as we look toward solutions for whole limb regeneration. Th...
